That’s such a valid fear! I didn’t let her walk outside. I’d put her in a pet backpack for hikes or her carrier for tent teardown and such. There was a couple times when she tried to catch things burrowing under the tent, but I keep her nails nice and short so there was no damage to the tent.
She was so much more chill about it than I expected. I had gotten some of those calming treats with melatonin, but never ended up needing them.
That black and green thing in the background is a portable litter box with a pop-up enclosure. I had her start using it about 3 weeks before the trip, just to minimize the amount of new things for her which I think also helped keep her calm
I took my 16yo cat on a summer-long camping trip this year. She had never been camping before, but she loved it so much!

I had to put all my stuff in storage then move across the country recently. I did not bring my cuckoo rice cooker with me, and damn I didn’t realize how spoilled I’ve gotten. The rice I’m cooking in a cheap one just isn’t as good. I think it is over-cooking the rice, but it’s actually hard to dial in

News@lemmy.world•Medical experts shocked by Tennessee team’s ‘malpractice’ in Christa Pike’s failed executionEnglish
111·11 days agoI am not for the death penalty in any capacity. However, this woman kept trying to murder people while in prison, although in far less horrific and dramatic ways than she murdered Colleen. I imagine the isolation she experienced on death row had an effect on the murder attempt? She needed to be in a psychiatric hospital
(I thought I had read elsewhere that she had two murder attempts on fellow inmates, one involving a romantic partner, but Wikipedia only has one attempt so I’ll leave it at that)

0·11 days agoI’m reading more of your comments in your thread, and I really hope your doctor can help you out. Treatment for this can range from having a feeding port installed to therapy. My family member needed both a port and therapy, but is thriving now.
I also do really understand the texture thing, I have both AuDHD and a sensory processing disorder. If I’m severely stressed about anything, I end up living off safe soft food for a few weeks until my stressor has resolved. Because some textures feel less like food that will nourish me, and more like random objects that might cause me health issues if I try to digest them. That rubbery canned meat texture, especially if it’s accompanied by a layer of fat at the top of the can… 🤢 Yeah I totally understand that :/

0·11 days agoHave you heard of ARFID? A close family member, as well as my close friend’s autistic child have this disorder. Low appetite and the visceral reactions to various food items are common with this disorder
Her eyes are gorgeous!
The one that breaks my heart is the Christian counseling services, which are so often not true therapy. There are absolutely licensed therapists out there who are Christian and can advertise that. Just hate watching people who have serious mental health problems go to counseling and hating themselves because prayer isn’t usually enough to help.
I’m a firm believer that if there is a God, he provided the tools and people to help his flock deal with modern problems. But people often turn away from using these tools or services :(
There’s a Fundamental Christian influencer named Aria Lewis who has that “insurance”. She’s been dealing with dental problems and basically made a post one day asking her followers if that insurance was a scam because she wasn’t able to get the care she really needed
It’s crazy what people problems fall into when they choose something has “Christian” in the name over what everyone else is using
I’m asking this genuinely, and not accusingly. Why do you think it’s slop? It looks like a normal fennec to me. It’s not my favorite type of fox, but it does look very typical of fennecs
Also, and maybe ai had gotten better at this, but generally it’s not able to generate an image with the tail wrapping around in the way this fox has
From a quick search, it seems like it’s not as simple as getting a harness and using it in my car, I’d have to also get aftermarket seats and possibly further alterations to the vehicle. Not a bad idea, though, and something to keep in mind when I’m ready for a new car.

News@lemmy.world•The Increasingly Long Drive to Give Birth in Rural AmericaEnglish
71·20 days agoThis happens even in states that have enshrined abortion in their constitution, like Montana. Where I lived in Montana we had to drive 2.5 hours one way for the nearest maternity center. It may absolutely be the case that abortion bans are causing these maternity centers to close in many areas, but where I lived it was happening because the rising costs of Healthcare, and the costs to entice doctors to “the frontier”, were too high for keeping the local (and quite poor) population safe and healthy
https://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/mt-supreme-court/1489482.html
This is the law that protected access to abortion
The shape and height of my body means the seat belt digs into my neck, instead of going across my chest and over my shoulder. Low key, sometimes I wonder if I would be decapitated in a crash because of it
Wait, I’m already doing this. Y’all can join me in my bog ^^
