I did read your comment and i mention the vpn cause i thought you were talking about untrusted celluar signals, not due to being able to just having the ability to connect to them.

Im going to be using Delta chat for my phone calls and texts, which dosent use a phone number and its not tied to a carrier. Im not going to be using a phone number unless its for emergenices. (Ill be getting a temporary number when buying a physical sim card).

The radio and the band compatibility (2G/3G/4G) has nothing to do with each other, they use two completely different sets of frequencies. I have also checked and this phone would 100% work to where im going when getting an international sim card.

The phone dosent come preinstalled with a radio. You would have to install one, which would be over wifi or data. Since thats the case, I already have a portable emergency radio, if needed.

There are only a very few short wave frequencies that the US picks up to where im traveling too, but im still looking if the reverse is possible.

Google messages and IMessages at this point are literally the same thing. They both use RCS, just on different platforms. Unless your family really like Apple, it shouldnt have been a problem.

My folks were really chill about the change until i decided to go the degoogle route. Texting started to become an issue, and im trying to tell anyone that i text to go to Delta Chat. So far, some of my family are using it. But for others, i know its gonna be an issue.

Yeah, its basically that. When i moved from IMessage to Google Message(this was before i went down the FOSS rabbit hole), you have to remake your group chats or someone who is your contact would have to send a text that makes you rejoin a group chat even though you no longer see any of your old messages. One of the biggest annoyances from Apple, its way to locked down to the point that you cant even export your messages, unless its with another apple device.

Yeah, thats the main issue with imessage (and it still is) and if your switching from IOS to android, you have to start over on all of your messages unless if you figure out a way to back them up.

You say that until you cant even text your family or friends because every messaging application requires RCS. In the US, almost everyone is using RCS or we are using Windows with Microsoft Teams because of work. We dont use WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, etc, unless its about traveling out of the country. Apple and Google really want SMS and MMS to kick the bucket but if GOS can pull this through, Im 100% for it.

Yeah, it is unfortunatly. Unless you are working a extremely risky job, your gonna be viewed as suspecious. And even if your a US citizen or not, you can be searched without a warrant.

Wouldnt a VPN work in that case? Even on wifi, you gotta use a VPN or you can even carry one of those portable wifi/hotspot devices. (I was actually thinking of getting one of those to try it out)

Apple may be secure, but they are not private, they’re just better at hiding it. They use trackers everywhere on all their apps, and are pushing AI just like google. It dosent matter if you use a firewall VPN, blockers or anything, iOS can bypass all of that and still track you. Plus, you cant sideload anything, unless you jailbreak.
