If it did anything useful i won’t mind.

Technology@lemmy.world•EU calls VPNs “a loophole that needs closing” in age verification pushEnglish
1·12 hours agoNo I understand that’s the objective but you have to engage with them on the platform they’ve chosen. If they want to argue that we need to save the children then they need to demonstrate an arguement along those lines.

27·13 hours agoAs a parent myself I do sort of wonder why parents are incapable of dealing with their own children. They’re really stupid, it isn’t that hard.
But also my parents barely understood what the internet was, I turned out absolutely fine, I don’t feel the need to do anything particularly objectionable. Why can’t everyone just calm down?

7·16 hours agoWhen I was in Florida once I was reliably informed that the alligator in the nearby swamp was called Kevin. This was about 10 years ago and I don’t know how long crocodiles live but if Kevin the crocodile is still alive maybe he would appreciate Kevin the billionaire

5·16 hours agoWell the solution is to simply ban 3D printed guns. I’m sure that’ll keep them nice and safe. After all nobody ever breaks laws

52·16 hours agoAt least in this case it gets across the truly stupid amount of energy being wasted. As a general rule I think that if you can boil one of the great lakes with your daily thermal output you probably shouldn’t be doing it.

1·23 hours agoIt says I’m on Chrome, I’m not.
Also, so what if you know my IP, that isn’t sensitive information.
It’s good to bring attention to this stuff but at the same time there’s no point getting too worried about it.
The thing is they’re lying to themselves. If they actually thought that you could replace all humans with AI they’d have already done it, as it currently is it’s only a few companies that are transitioning a few jobs over to AI. eeery company that’s tried to replace their entire workforce has dramatically failed.
If my bosses want to replace me with AI I will gladly take the severance, and then the job are back in 6 months with twice the salary.
Now you have to perform Swan Lake in order to exit Vim

1·1 day agoI think the point is there aren’t so many butts on Lemmy spreading misinformation. Of course there are a lot of idiots on here, but their ability to post BS is limited.

2·1 day agoEvery time somebody complains about YouTube it’s always because they don’t actually have any subscriptions and they’re just looking at the front page.
The front page of YouTube is indeed rubbish, no one should be looking at that.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•How social medias are reacting to the hantavirus
5·1 day agoViruses usually survive quite fine when frozen. Viruses aren’t really alive so in order to “kill” them you’re looking for something that will destroy their DNA.
You want something like high heat, UV, or bleach. Also just stuff like wearing face coverings and gloves should be enough, after all I am assuming you’re not planning to eat them.

6·1 day agoYou can turn that off of course.
I’ve just remembered that when Apple first came out with email signatures my idiot boss somehow managed to change his signature to “Mr sexy good time” and couldn’t work out how to change it back. So we had that at the bottom of corporate emails for quite a while.

24·1 day agoChanging the terms and conditions to say you are now allowed to steal from your customers doesn’t seem like it would be legal. Which of course is why trump’s doing it.

7·1 day agoDoubly so when you keep letting the scorpion back on your back, and it stings you again, and you are equally surprised the next time.
I’m sure the libs will be very upset if these idiots mainline horse dewormer, that they will have purchased for 16 times it’s actual retail value.
As a fellow European and therefore educated beyond fourth grade I know what RNA is, I also know that ivermectin is a horse dewormer, I also know that viruses aren’t parasitic wounds.
Depending on the age it may not be illegal but it does constitute academic misconduct, precisely because it leaves the professor open to blackmail e.g. exactly this.
