0·5 days agoThere is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is everyone doing to survive this food inflation?English
0·8 days agoMaybe they have a small freezer, idk. We have a vegetable subscription from a local farm, it’s great. Vegetables get delivered once a week, and they’re so fresh we can really taste the difference.

0·9 days agoIt’s not just you, English spelling is a disaster. Other languages are mostly or completely consistent. Only in English is “Gloster” spelled “Gloucester” and “kernel” “colonel”, while “lead” and “lead” have different pronounciations, depending on whether you mean the heavy metal or leadership.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is everyone doing to survive this food inflation?English
0·9 days agoI agree with you, but it seems that for many people, convenience is more important than almost anything else. Which is exactly how the food industry makes most of their profits.

0·9 days ago- Don’t eat out.
- Buy staples and spices and learn to make tasty dishes from them. Pretty much every culture on this planet has figured out super tasty and nutritious dishes from the staples that are available to them. Learn from them. (This will take time, as in it’s a long term goal, but it’s so worth it.)
- Don’t buy processed products of any kind. Pre-processing terribly bad ingredients for convenience is how the food industry takes your money. Buy real food.
- If you can, don’t buy meat. If you can’t, buy as little as possible. It will be better for you, for your wallet, for the animals, and for the planet. But also don’t buy any preprocessed meat replacement products (see point 3).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•"If I can't win an argument, I must change my mind." Do you agree with this view?English
0·11 days agoAn argument is not a fight that must be won. It is a conversion with an exchange of ideas and opinions. The world is a tiny little bit more complex than “wrong/right”, and so are the conversations and differing viewpoints.

I agree almost entirely! So you see now how the graph is incorrect?
Many, many more people have died from coal and nuclear.
This graphic is incorrect.

Even more so. The slop needs to be checked more thoroughly than human written code, because they are good at generating something that looks reasonable at first glance, but at closer inspection is actually bullshit.
