There was eventually no way to disable Samsung TV Plus on my old TV. Any time I was not in an app or viewing something via HDMI, it would default to that. It was not like that at all when I originally bought it, this was something they changed about it via OTA software updates. It never forced Sky/News24 on me while I owned it, though (sold it a few months ago), so either this wasn’t pushed to my model or it is a recent change.
No idea personally, samsung and lg were already on my ‘definitely do not buy’ list.
All of this crap will not be/remain just an issue with these 2 though.

I fucking knew it!! I recently got a new Samsung TV and it always, always, promotes SkyNews shit.
I was going to stop using an Apple TV with it but have since switched back to using that because it doesn’t promo shit that I hate.
