I hear about some Americans wanting to move out of the country heading elsewhere, but there’s a few things holding them back that’s still deeming them American abroad: tax is tied to citizenship even if you are earning foreign income living abroad, jury duty exists but its excused as you’re not in USA, your right to vote, selective service system (draft pool) as a passport has obligations that you still abide (tax, voting, jury duty, SSS).

The “true” way to really move out is renounce US citizenship (only if you’re a dual citizen as they won’t accept applications if you intend to be stateless) which rescinds citizenship based taxation, jury duty, right to vote and not having to worry about the SSS ever again (as your name is removed from their database as you’re no longer a US citizen). Why don’t Americans living in Japan apply for a Japanese passport via naturalization?

Of course: there are Americans living in Japan, Korea, Spain, France but why don’t they consider applying for their passport (after they obtained PR & speak local langauge at near native level fluency to ensure integration) but some countries do not allow dual citizenship (meaning you’re given a choice: want to be considered “Japanese” after living in Japan for 20 years, first you must renounce US citizenship before naturalization).
