oh i did this with an iceboat as a kid. the speeds you can get up to are insane. i don’t know if the wheeled ones have as low friction as the ones on skates but the learner model i tried easily got up to 80-100km/h without me doing anything. one of the coolest things i’ve ever done.

I believe that’s Ivanpah Lake, which is on the California side of the border.

Anyone can drive out there. Easy access from the truck stop parking lot, assuming a truck hasn’t parked in front of the dirt road. You just pull off the interstate and take a rip across the lakebed, fast as you want. Though it’s a good idea to check that it’s thoroughly dry first. In addition to a heat mirage hiding surface water, there’s a hazard of the surface being sun baked dry but it being muddy underneath the crust.

Right, I’ll just pull over and get my landyacht out of the back of my truck. OP, is there a rental place for these in Primm?

I meant you can drive on the lakebed with whatever you were driving down the interstate in, you’re not limited to wind power.

Ok that’s kinda cool but this land sailing thing looks way more awesome than puttering around on the flat in my SUV. Still wouldn’t want to own one though.

Years ago I ran a short Fallout PnP campaign that had something like this in it. Cool to see it in real life!
