The scenario is this: the mercenary whilst abroad just murdered whom he’d thought were suspected adversaries but turned out being innocent people the entire time, now the victim’s family wants to sue but are threatened by the merc himself if they snitched.

The challenge on fighting this legally is that the perpetrator is from a certain status (politco-military?) as he will utilize both his influence and power to quash any form of justice. The issue also lies on the jurisdiction the murder took place while he already left.

The victim’s family could try the “normal” approach by reporting it to conventional bodies but they’ll say “sorry, it’s out of our reach” since the murderer is of ex-military, private security or government background so getting him sentenced is going to be pretty hard.

The victim’s family could try being PI’s themselves: stealing intel to share on social media proving the real perpetrator plotted to murder their loved ones. The PMC who employed the perpetrator may be dissolved or rebranded, so it’s a gamble if he’ll face trial.

The real danger is the merc himself may murder the jurors and judge if he knew the victim’s family demanded justice, in order to protect them: extreme witness protection & heightened security including a publicized trial making it hard for an assassination.

The victim’s family will need extreme protection as their lives are at stake taking on a “high profile” perpetrator since they can be assassinated for simply wanting justice. However, even the act of putting him in jail is a death sentence as he’ll murder the guards too.

How would a trial (or even sending him to jail) happen if:

  • The merc killed all the eyewitnesses who recognize him
  • The merc kidnaps the victim’s family children for torture
  • The merc plots to murder the sheriff and officers involved
  • The merc sends death threats to the jury and their families
  • The merc plots to assassinate the judge and their family
  • The merc plots to blow up & terrorize the court house
  • The merc plots to demolish the prison killing those inside
  • The (former) merc becomes a politician sitting in office
  • The leader of his country pardoned him despite all that

Those are the key reasons why those types of assailants never face prison for murdering people even though eyewitnesses saw them, often leaving victim’s families with no closure and scared shit for their own lives, scarred from death threats and constant blackmail.

It’s sad, I figured. However, even if this type of perpetrator murdered someone: is achieving any form of justice going to be difficult AF without putting yourself or the parties involved into straight up danger as it’s stepping into the politico-military subject matter?

You hear stories like what happened to former spies being assassinated, like that how a ex-Russian agent and his family were murdered from Novichok contaminating the door handle of their hotel room. So, that’s the of danger the attorney is treading into.
