          What really struck me was the reddish nose markings too. OP’s image looked like a coyote to me.

            I’ve no real familiarity with taxonomy and am still unclear on whether this animal I recently spotted was a fox or coyote.

            (I know the photo isn’t good, it was taken at a distance while they were moving around, but I recommend you try not to miss the cub in the background!)

            Especially in Canada, there’s going to be a large degree of hybridization. Coyotes have apparently also been shown to become more wolf-like (i.e., larger) in territories they have moved into since wolves were extirpated.

      Crown land is land owned by the government of a commonwealth country. In Canada, federally owned and provincially owned land is referred to as crown land.
