So were Redditors 15-20 years ago, though. This place is exactly like the old Reddit ecosystem. Heavily focused on programming, Linux, and Star Trek. The smaller subs for politics, culture, news, etc take longer to build up.
I had a coworker that started to hate his job and feel trapped. We all did, but he was more vocal about it to his friends. He said:
“I think sometimes, what if I didn’t take that turn on the highway and just kept going?”.
Well one day he didn’t come in. Emailed the boss he quit later. I like to think he just kept driving on to a better future.
I remember this as a kid, too! My mom said she wore a metal bra in a music video. We didn’t have MTV so I didn’t know who Madonna was, even. So I still had a bunch of questions that could’ve been solved with a Google search, had it existed.
I don’t think I got this joke until maybe a decade later when the Internet was a thing and I saw a picture or a meme or something.
The entire Year Zero album was Trent’s revive of what would become MAGA. Unfortunately, the only solution for the problem in his album was aliens killing everyone.
It’s still a great album and very relevant today.

News@lemmy.world•US gasoline crosses $3 per gallon mark in test of Trump's Iran war
7·1 month agoIn what location? In the US, directly after 9/11, has was pegged at .99/gallon because Bush made some kind of deal with oil execs. But they did raise it eventually. Not to 8/gallon though. Unless you’re speaking of Europe?

Technology@lemmy.world•Burger King will use AI to check if employees say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’English
5·1 month agoWelcome to Burger King, I love you. Welcome to Burger King, I love you. Welcome to Burger King, I love you…
Yeah, I really don’t care about the forced speech they do. Organic, natural speaking is way better than a script, and I don’t require anyone at their job to say welcome, please, etc. It’s a stupid solution in search of a problem.
Of course, I also don’t eat at burger king or their rivals, so I doubt they care. Increase the quality, decrease the price. That’s what would get me to go.
The overwhelming majority of bullets are used against paper or steel targets. Most hunters take the entire carcass for butchering, so the eagles aren’t eating lead from animals shot and left in the wilderness. And given the volume needed, I wouldn’t be surprised that they’re eating fragments fired at steel targets that they mistake for rocks to keep in their stomach to grind up food.

I had to have a tendon reattached, and that means cutting the skin to get to it. The problem is that as the skin heals, it attaches to the tendon very easily. The surgeon has to cut your skin in a Z-shape to lessen the amount of scar tissue along the tendon’s path. Even then, the little bit that does tries to latch on.
So you have to constantly work at it to get it to loosen, and let the tendon glide. That means moving it, vibrating it, pulling it. It sucks. It hurts. For years. But the alternative is to freeze that joint and limit your range for the rest of your life.
Not having scaring would be amazing.
