Maybe the Commodore Callback? It’s a modern flip phone, I think running heavily modified Linux, that leaves out pretty much all social media apps.

3·2 months agoYeah! I like PeerTube. I want to start posting there, but I’m struggling to find the time to edit together videos.

6·2 months agoI’d personally say most of those are “microblog” styled interfaces, but I can’t actually provide a clear cut definitional difference between “photo blog” and “micro blog” other than a vibes based thing about including photos in EVERY post or not.
But yeah, love all the options we have. I was just talking with someone about missing Web 1.0, I’ll have to check out GoToSocial and spin it up on my hardware.

31·2 months agoSome how this slipped through the cracks among all the other suggestions, but PixelFed is sort of the only fedi photo blog alternative.
Idk, the best mechanics I know would find a way…

1·3 months agoFunny enough there’s a section on body cams in a video essay that was just released by a creator I think does pretty good work. The video is technically about other things, but body cams come up in the conversation and the video goes into pretty good depth on them.

1·3 months agoI’m not denying the usage of the footage. Like yes, of course that is the exact example of when it should be used. However, many times, even if not releasing footage seems incriminating to the populace, when it is successfully withheld accountability is lost. Even when the footage is released cops often see no consequences for their actions, so the footage ends up just serving to normalize and broadcast police violence resulting in control via fear not peace via collaboration. But that’s all more anecdotal I fear.
In the end the data pretty much says body cams have a negligible impact on policing, at least according to this PBS article (most of the way through the article for that), but you can also cherry pick quotes from this to support pretty much any stance.
The idealized version of body cams would help with police reform, but I don’t believe in reform, I believe in abolition, so in the end they just look to me like giving them more tech to be twisted for oppression rather than accountability. If police thought body cams would hold them accountable they wouldn’t care about citizens filming them, and the fact people are being prosecuted for doing that says everything it needs to about what the police think about footage of their violence and crimes.
Just my thoughts. If you’ve got better info than my lone article from a source I’m slightly partial to I’d love to read it! I took a class on carceral technology, and I’ll try to track down some of the sources we used!
The post is about their fans, not the validity of their associated religions.
Bottom right should be white Jesus instead.

6·3 months agoIdk. I feel some kind of way about this. Like, pay your sex workers, but most of this stuff was far from ethically made itself, so of course get it on the seas.
I guess moral of the story is consider tipping or supporting your favorite sex workers if they still have an active presence in the industry.

13·3 months agoMaybe I’m too young and missed an era, but what is this? I mean I understand it’s a peer to peer file sharing protocol and network (might be using wrong terms), but what does that actually mean as far as the end user? Basically a private tracker but one “layer” further up? Sort of bridging the gap from Usenet to BitTorrent? ELIF by all means! I’m curious about this.
Tidal is owned by Jay-Z so it’s not a ton better, though the hi-fi and paying artists better was enough reason for me for now. With easy migration too, it made the most sense to also quickly get my family off of the Spotify family plan. I’m also trying to grow my offline music library again, and Tidal being hi-fi “allows” for some interesting usability to that end. Ripping CDs and buying on Bandcamp has also been a good shift!
The most artist centric option would probably be that final one. Buying CD or digital albums directly from artists and growing your offline library. Toss Jellyfin on something and you have your own personal streaming platform!

Yeah I grew up in a spot that still includes “acts of god” in insurance policies to explicitly cover things like that. Sorry to hear about this situation. For profit insurance companies are so toxic.
Sandy looks great and I’m glad your tbi cleared!
