Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex’s price hikes prove I was right to switch to JellyfinEnglish

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex’s price hikes prove I was right to switch to JellyfinEnglish
71·3 days agoI’ve finally switched to Jellyfin, even though I have a lifetime Plex pass. It isn’t really a downgrade. I think I ran into more bugs on Plex. Using Jellyfin is like switching from Windows to Linux, on a smaller scale. Plex was always trying to sell you something, get you to use the other features, etc, whereas Jellyfin just gets out of my way and lets me watch media.

Technology@lemmy.world•Lithium deposit valued at over $1.5 trillion discovered in the U.S.English
2·4 days agoThey’re reputable local credit unions, not predatory lenders, and 30k is more than a 5% down payment, even after closing costs.
I suppose the unknown here is income, as in my current position making 100kUSD/yr, I’d have absolutely no problem making payments on a 20 year or even a 15 year loan, even if I do end up with a house near the top of my budget, which I’d rather stay well under of course. That said, A $150k house seems like it’d be no problem for that commenter based on their savings making up a >20% down payment.

Technology@lemmy.world•Lithium deposit valued at over $1.5 trillion discovered in the U.S.English
12·4 days agoAs someone who has 30k in the bank and qualified for multiple 350k loans with the lenders implying I’d be good for more, this mames no sense.

6·5 days agoYes. You can either have two people use the same account, or do partner sharing.
At my job I’m so fucking tired of being told how to do my job with more AI. I use AI as I see fit to help with development, end of story. The manager of manual QA was told to use AI more, so what he figured out is that now we’re going to have manual testers generating code that we’ll have to look over I guess. Fun. Productive. Great.
It seems like it’s part of a ghost fetish or something

Technology@lemmy.world•Notepad++ Creator Calls Out 'Fake' Mac App Over Trademark ViolationEnglish
4·10 days agoThat’s so dumb. The plus plus indicates its a new, better version of the Notepad software. Nextpad doesn’t exist, so nextpad++ makes no sense.
I looked it up, and the default text editor on MacOS is TextEdit, so why not call it TextEdit++?
I’m not sure why I’m putting in this much thought, they probably just asked AI to rename it for them.

News@lemmy.world•Nearly half of Americans say they are cutting daily expenses to deal with spiking gas prices from Trump’s Iran war
3·11 days agoI’m pretty sure Biden did the fuel prices, that’s what the sticker on the pump said at least.
-His truck driving supporters, probably.
I’m a gearhead so my vehicles aren’t all efficient, and I just see higher fuel prices as the cost of my hobby going up, which isn’t good, but being a gearhead was already expensive. I’m sure these guys in oversized trucks feel feel similar.
That said, I also like cycling, have an electric skateboard, and use public transit when it makes sense, and I work from home, so the fuel prices don’t really affect me as much as some. Now, if I had a 120 mile round-trip commute I’d
kmsget an EV or plugin hybrid or ride my motorcycle, only driving my fun cars on occasion.

2·11 days agoSpend $15 on a cheeseburger and $5 on fuel idling in the drive-through. What a bargain!
This is the first setting I changed on every laptop I ever owned. So often I had stuff running in the background and didn’t want it to sleep. Plus, windows had that stupid fucking sleep bug, so usually I’d use hibernate anyways.
