There is a bin store in my town and it pulls in about 400 or more customers a day. At least on $12 and $1 days. With so many people wanting to use his toilet and his water tax increasing, the owner installed a pay toilet. Of course people were taping over the lock so he stationed a security guy by the door. Now customers are going out behind his building to do their business and you can smell it as you drive up. Who carries change? I don’t even shop at stores that require me to insert a quarter for a cart. Anyway, a rounded backward key works. My sister now carries spare keys with her and I told her she could just as easily carry quarters but it is the principle. I just don’t shop there, on principle. I also don’t shop at membership clubs. If BJ’s, Sams or Costco wants my money, they have to pay me to come in. Otherwise, it is bin stores and farmers markets for me.

Practically everything. My phone, garbage, insurance, food, gas, electric, internet, cable . . . everything went up seemingly at the same time. There are a lot of products and businesses I just outright boycott based upon GOP reasons. I pretty much eliminate grocery stores in the summer and buy from local farms. I partition my trash into small bags and deposit them in trash cans and eliminated my garbage pick up. I compost all scraps. Started a vegetable garden. Grow my own cannabis. Switched to USMobile for $10 a month unlimited. Torrent everything. Cut cable. I used to eat out about three times a week and that is now zero. Overall, I am eating better and even lost about 15 pounds. I discovered bin stores. I find myself buying more stuff that I don’t need but want. I found a $500 Garmin watch on dollar day. The only wrong with it was it was missing the band so I found one that fit and got that for a buck. On $3 day last week I found a pair of ar6 walkie talkies sealed. On $12 day I found a 32" TV and leaf blower, both sealed. I can’t see myself ever paying full price again, shopping in a store or even online.

I used to work for a professional theater and per equity rules we were required to hold auditions in NYC for three days to cast a full time resident actor. About 200 people applied. Some flew in from CA, AZ and FL. Many others drove or took a four hour train ride in to audition. I was told to just go and enjoy the process because the position was already filled by someone who was regularly doing extra work for us. He didn’t even audition.

The bishop of a cathedral once told me how he was hiring a new music director and had over 50 resumes on his desk to peruse. An applicant knocked on his door saying he was interested in the job. The bishop looked at the applicant, looked at the pile, looked at the applicant and hired him on the spot. He was there for 50 years.
