She answered her own question on the cable storage, but may not have realized it, though the lesson was clearly learned. Strain relief on those wrap around chargers was always an issue.
You can see the electrical tape on the second one in response to the wear wrapping cables around the ears induced, and also the careful way she made sure to add a fair amount of free cable before wrapping it. In 20 years as a Mac technician, I can’t tell you how many times I had to explain to people how they had to keep a loose loop at the start if they didn’t want to have to replace their charger yet again.
Convenient yes, but I think I prefer the chargers with detachable cables that have become common.
How far did they think they could slice the iPad market? It’s always seemed more of a steady seller, not a massive hit.
I love my M4 iPad Pro, but I have to somewhat sheepishly admit it’s basically a wildly overpriced video streaming device for me now. I mean, video looks great, but still…iPadOS would need at least basic feature parity with macOS for me to put it to any real use. It doesn’t need to BE macOS, but iPadOS is far too awkward, at least for me, to use as a laptop replacement.

Bit of a bummer to hear. I didn’t really expect it to do all that well, not at that price point certainly, but I harbored hopes they’d take the path with it as they did with the Watch.
The watch sold OK, but it was the year on year on year iterative improvements that turned it into a powerhouse. I assume they can see the hardware map better than this random guy on the internet, but still a bit sad to see them give up on what looked to have some intriguing potential down the road.

It’s not that my taxes are too high. It’s that the hyper-rich don’t pay enough.
I don’t mind taxes! As I’ve said repeatedly, civilization is expensive and can only be paid for on the installment plan. I’m happy to contribute my bit to keep things running. But when the rich won’t pay their fair share…well that just fuckin’ pisses me off.

“Good” to see European companies getting on the enshittification gravy train. I’d wondered what happened to Evernote. Now I know who caused me to bail so fast when it went to shit.

Titan, Wizard, and Demon by John Varley. The first book starts off with a bog-standard “first human exploration of Saturn’s system,” bit, but starts going off the rails immediately. By the end, you’ll meet a 50 foot clone of Marilyn Monroe and think, “eh, I’ll accept that.”
It’s one of sci-fi’s more delightfully unhinged stories.

Oh please oh please oh pleeeeeaaaaaaase.

Thanks to Bari Weiss I made sure to track down and watch a 60 Minutes segment for the first time since the 20th century.

There isn’t really anything I can add to what’s already been said about these malicious idiots, only that I’m so very grateful to live in Washington state where sanity still prevails.

The first time I played Super Mario on the N64 I can still recall how it made me slightly dizzy, which delighted me. That effect only lasted a short while, but it was a lot of fun to feel that disoriented by a video game, if but briefly.
I’m not usually one for displaying pride colors, but the new one is quite nice. The colors themselves are pleasantly bright, and there are some rather slick animations and color shifts that don’t overdo it.
