this is kind of a weird one, because I think LLMs generally would natively recomend above average policies, but you know for a fact that the people currently in charge would train this specific LLM and feed it data and configure it’s memory/context/prompt are going to massage the inputs such that it’s essentially replacing “all the rich white guys decided to give Israel 999 billion dollars to Israel, sorry buddy, that’s democracy” to “sorry buddy, computer says, we gotta give 999 billion dollars to Israel”.

but you can buy retro style devices that can emulate most consoles older than 20 years, they’re pretty common. some even go as far as literal cartridge compatibility.

I do have that childhood nostalgia for cartridges, but that aside the modern joy of physical media is usually something like works offline, works 20 years from now, can’t be remotely disabled. But I’ve found that once you’re paying $599 for a brick with a 5 year expiration time bomb built-in, $70 per game, 20GB downloads before you can start playing, the dark patterns don’t end there, and the whole ecosystem just isn’t worth all the hassle.

TBF almost all the games worth playing before 2016 probably run fine on at least one of: your phone or your linux PC.

Valve seems significantly closer to a reasonable compromise between our ideology and the opposing ideology, especially compared to Sony and Microsoft.

I wouldn’t bother learning, whatever you learn today could be out of date in a year and could overall be impossible in less than 5 years. historically people would believe whatever title you slap on a youtube video regardless of if the video even tried to demonstrate the claim or not. I’d focus on authoritative and reliable sources and just be an open minded but also vigilant skeptic of claims you have no practical way to validate.

lol I signed up for deal alerts because I wanted a really specific product. my keywords were meticulously specific. their deal search tool allowed me to tune my search so products I want are in the results and products I don’t want are not. every email they send me includes products that are “related but obviously wrong” to my keywords. Like I’d be ok if an algorithm slipped in a mistake or two but you made a whole fucking page dedicated to this and then you just send random bullshit to my email? that’s basically spam. Like imagine if you made a custom search for “nike sneakers -addidas” and the search tool confirmed 100% you got the keywords right and then the actual email alert is sending you addidas shorts and other random bullshit.

I think the more pertinent question would be: is the US willing to commit enough ground forces for such a thing? Imagine the political fallout of adding a 3rd mass casualty war to this list:

• Vietnam (58k dead, 300k wounded)
• Iraq (4.5k dead, 32k wounded)

for comparison, Iran is probably less than 20 dead, less than 500 wounded, and the US hasn’t committed ground troops, and is already an embarrassing failure.
