  • Yes, they will gradually change university selection. Elections are in May, Macron is basically saying “the next person will do something about it, trust me”.

What they should have done? I would say same thing as in Serbia: organize, mobilize, build support for people they want to see leading the country and get them elected. Burning schools and public buildings achieves nothing.

It’s sad that people no longer understand the difference between working towards some goal and violent lashing out. Hopefully lemmy is just an echo chamber fetishizing violence and most people are smarter than that. Hopefully we will see more countries follow Spanish example than the French one.

  • Yes, USA and Russia is similar. Trump won 2 times in USA same as Putin won couple of fair elections before they stopped being fair. Both USA and Russia are full of bloodthirsty, racist people that believe they live in the greatest country in the world. It’s not an accident that brutal dictators raised to power there. It’s a direct expression of the desires of their citizens. Only when the oppression starts to affect them personally they begin to see the light.

  • Source? All the article says is “i9 Sports, which operates youth leagues, camps, and clinics for children ages 3 and up in sports including soccer, has not issued a public statement on the incident. Local police have also not released information confirming details of any call or escort.”

Too many people in this thread letting their emotions control their opinion due to a scary headline about a subject they apparently know very little about.

What you’re describing is not just some more reasonable interpretation of the info in the article. You’re describing facts other people have no way of knowing. It’s not “letting emotions control their opinion”. It’s simply having opinion about facts at hand.

  • Two options:

    • things are so good there they don’t see the need to protest

    • things were so bad for so long that current crisis didn’t make much impact yet

But seriously, I think it’s a mix of those two. Some things are terrible but were bad for so long people got used to it and lost hope it will get better (like healthcare and corruption in Poland). Other things actually got a lot better over the last couple of decades (like salaries in Poland).
