we absolutely shouldn’t buy things through Amazon or any of the other web stores Amazon owns.

I try to use eBay as an alternative, though i find every 3-4 orders i place there, i get one in an Amazon box that by all rights appears to have been shipped by Amazon. I swear people are drop-shipping stuff from Amazon to their eBay buyers.

Those fucking things really bother me. If anyone would go around conspicuously recording everyone and everything in front of their face, some people would definitely have a problem with it. Making the camera less conspicuous doesn’t change how people feel about being recorded by randos. It’s not like people can’t find sneaky ways to record their surroundings but to try to make it acceptable or mainstream to do so and to provide the masses with the means is exceptionally shitty

I’m sure I’m missing out, but i have no interest in using chatbots and other LLMs etc. It floors me to see how much attention they get though, how much resources are being dumped into their development and use. Nuclear plants being reopened for the sake of AI?!!

I also assume there’s a lot of things they’re capable of that could be huge for science, and there’s likely lots of big things happening behind closed doors that we’re yet to see in the coming years. I know it’s not all just chatbots.

The way this article strikes me though, is that it’s pretty much just wasting resources for parlor-game level output. I don’t know if i like the idea of people giving up their ability to write a basic letter or essay, not that my opinion on the matter is gonna change anything obviously 😅
