7·4 days agoYou’ve got some points but I would argue that antiquated UI will be what saves the Internet. Keeping out bots and AI scrapers with good old fashioned phpBBS systems that have been around for twenty years will be our clean data as we build systems outside of AI and the techbro properties.

News@lemmy.world•Easy-to-use solar panels are coming, but utilities are trying to delay them
8·9 days agoMy understanding is that it’s a safety issue. Currently, substations have source power shutoffs so any lead-in power source can be easily cut off to replace equipment. But, they’re not set to handle other power inputs in the substation grid. I’ve never fully understood this reasoning as once power is handed off from one substation to the other (to prevent outages) it should be completely dead to do maintenance. It might be my ignorance on it but I can’t see how this is a problem and is likely a method by power companies to reduce solar usage by forcing expensive equipment between the grid and household.

5·15 days agoI can’t speak for everyone with my comment here. I really, really hate the side effects of the AI bubble. Where they force it into every fucking element of life. And honestly, I hate even that it’s being called AI. I hate that it’s made traditional algorithmic services worse like Google Now for example. And I hate the lack of privacy it’s brought.
That said, I have no problems with someone using it to complete a project with it. I think it could potentially raise a potential device security concern in a case like this. And probably wouldn’t partake in the app because of that. But I use my own self-hosted LLMs all the time. It helps me format things, saves me time with searching and researching when I want an answer, not knowledge.
There are many rational reasons to dislike and avoid “AI”. As well, there’s many irrational people. And there are some good uses for the technology.

0·23 days agoI’m guessing a guy like that who traded in relationships and secrets would be smart enough to set up a dead man drop in the event he goes quiet for too long. It keeps his life valuable.

0·23 days agoThere’s still the option that it was a faked death. That much wealth and power, if it could be done, that’s who and when it would be done. I’m not giving it much credence without more evidence, but I’ve got no reason to think that it’s not possible given the series of absurd happenings that morning.

0·6 months agoDude, next time use a healthy badger and you’ll only have to deal with blowback from NMS.

There was an episode of West Wing where CJ was really worried about (it was obviously Sinclair media) the consolidation of news media especially. I think that episode was in 2003 or 2004. It’s not a huge problem until it is. But, I contend it has been a right wing plan. Yes, the oligarchs have been the ones doing the buying but the plan to consolidate all media has been a major plan by the Christian right since at least the 80’s. They’ve been the ones pushing hard for it. And while it can benefit the oligarchs it primarily benefits fascism and the right.
