Guys we gotta stop with the “why even” type of comments.

On the issue of the senate here I present my opinions nobody asked for: I live in a country with a unicameral parlaiment with both party list and local representatives serving in it and boy it has it’s problems too. To be fair they are caused by shitty election laws and I’m fairly certain most of the USA’s problems are a result of that too. The two party system is way more harmful than the senate in my opinion and while every state getting two senators sounds stupid I do see it’s advantages.

For one it does not guarantee a good system but it does guarantee a stable one. Obviously the people who came up with it thought their system was pretty good so it made sense to make it hard to temper with. Then people figured out the system wasn’t as good as they initially thought and turns out you can change stuff if enough people around the country agree.

In my country it’s election (for everyone in the parliament) every four years, whoever wins probably gets to rewrite the constitution if they are into that and the other half of the country goes to the streets for like two days before realizing they will just do it back all in four years.

If I had to summarize I think the senate good be a good system. It isn’t but it could be.

So yeah I do envy that kind of system even if just a bit (well the fact that more than one person here seems to think things would be better if their system was more like someone else’s seems to indicate the system itself may be irrelevant), but this may not be my best take ever, given it’s 4 AM when I’m writing this lol

“Equating the tools and processes with the people” is such a good way of putting it that I gotta remember to remember it.

I don’t know… I’ve always found Kaczinsky an interesting guy, but now that I’m around halfway through his book, I find his arguements surprisingly weak as in he doesn’t really put a lot of effort into justifying the basics. He just goes on to say “yeah obfuscating the process of survival is bad” and sure I can see how some people might find hunting rabbits with bows more fulfilling than looking at Excel all day but if you don’t accept that immediately then his arguements become pretty weak.

I’m from Hungary, but I wasn’t sure about this so I looked it up and I was right: it shouldn’t be possible for the number to continue with a 0 after the +36 prefix. This bothers me for some reason.

Some say we live in a post-truth world. I say we live in a post-realism world. It’s not that objective reality vanished once this massive scale in ideological separation happened, it’s just that people stopped giving a fuck once it happened. Objective truth didn’t vanish though, most people just live without letting it inconvinience them.

I think Wayne is like THE incredibly wealthy guy in Gotham and Batman has stuff like custom made planes and tanks in his arsenal. So yes probably not a straight conclusion that the vigilante with seemingly infinite resources must be the same as the other guy with tons of money from your city, but at the very least the conclusion can be drawn that they are most likely connected. Obviously this wouldn’t work in Los Angeles where half of the world’s billionaires hang out.

I disagree. It really is just way simpler and also in most cases it solves whatever problem you have much faster.
