Technology@lemmy.world•Digg’s open beta shuts down after just two months, blaming AI bot spamEnglish
2·6 days agoI didn’t notice the spam and I was quite happy using the new Digg, so I don’t exactly know what you think I should have been doing differently.

Technology@lemmy.world•Digg’s open beta shuts down after just two months, blaming AI bot spamEnglish
12·6 days agoIt was basically exactly Reddit but with two noticeable AI features that were easy to ignore:
- An AI-generated summary of popular posts on the homepage
- Underneath every link post to an article was an AI summary, but on the app it was a collapsible section so collapsing it in one post would keep it collapsed for all.
I found the second one slightly handy, though, because when I was on Reddit I fell into the bad habit of posting after just reading headlines. With the AI summaries I could get more context and it often lead me to opening more articles than I would have without it.

3·6 days agoIt had some, yeah. Maybe not “successfully moved” per-say but they were there. I never really got a chance to dig into them very much but I was a member of the /spongebob community and it had some sincere activity from people who wanted to grow it into something fun and engaging.

4·6 days agoIt was active enough that there was new content every day. Checking multiple times a day I’d see the same stuff but I saw that as a positive that kept me from wasting too much time.

6·6 days agoI think I had blocked maybe one or two of the default communities very early on, and after that I hadn’t noticed any spam. I used the app at least once a day since the open beta started. Whatever they were doing to combat the bots appeared to be working. It’s a huge shame they thought otherwise and shut down.
Damn I was wondering why my login code for the app wasn’t appearing in my inbox. Besides some of the AI stuff which was easy to ignore, I really liked the new Digg and had worked it into my daily routine.

News@lemmy.world•Colon cancer now leading cause of cancer deaths under 50 in US
34·7 days agoI got diagnosed last year at 30 years old. I had lower abdominal pain that lasted a little over a month that I figured was IBS from a traumatic life event that recently happened. It was slowly improving until one day I woke up in extreme abdominal pain. There wound up being a mass at the very start of my large intestine.
The doctors found no obvious reasons as to why it happened- no family history, no substance abuse, no excessive energy drink or alcohol consumption. I now make a large effort to cut out as much processed food in my diet as I can.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Apple rolls out OS-level age verification in latest iOS 26.4 dev beta
0·14 days agoI’m only on 26.3 and I got an iOS age verification popup today when opening an app for hospital/medical stuff. I was able to just close it and continue but it was surprising.
Doesn’t look bad per-se, but he definitely doesn’t look like the Jim Carrey everyone pictures in their head anymore. In fact I would 100% not be able to tell you who the person in that second picture is.
I wonder how much this gimps his iconic ability to crazily distort his face.

Years ago I went to one of those Halloween haunted house-type things where you walk from room to room and have people in scary costumes scare you. Each room was separated by some plastic flaps hanging in the doorway. For the finale, you end up getting chased by one of the actors with a chainsaw.
As we were running away, I began to feel bad that the actor was getting smacked with the flaps closing behind us, so I started to hold them open. I think I probably confused the actor a little bit. This post reminded me of that experience.

Same on iOS too
