Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why does cats (and similar animals) can live with the exact same food every day, but we (humans) need a variety of food to survive?English
0·8 days agoAsked my GF who’s an aspiring crazy cat lady:
It’s because (proper) cat food is engineered to contain all the nutrients they need. While it looks like a bland mush of only one thing, it’s more like the cat equivalent of having several full nutricious meals run through a blender. The required variety is built in.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you decide if you are living a “good life?”English
0·7 days agoMy knee-jerk reaction would be “if you’re happy”, but I had an epiphany a while back:
I was chitchatting with a coworker over way too many beers and he asked me something along the lines of “were you happy growing up (insert background here)”, and after weighing my words I responded that “I would’ve been, except I’m generally not a very happy person”.So am I satisfied with my life? Yes.
Do I have worries? Yes, like anyone else on this planet. Mine are pretty minor and not debilitating.
Do I consider myself happy now? See above. But yet, I’d conclude that I’m living a good life, even if I’m generally a grumpy guy.
You might want to edit that post title, lest you attract “yes”-replies from people who don’t bother reading the post body.
Ah, the infamous hard R
Early 2000s entertainment too. A good portion of the edgy jokes could be considered funny because they were made on the assumption that “We can laugh about this, because we all know racism and sexism is bad, right?”.
And then 2015ish happened and it became obvious that a lot of people weren’t laughing AT the -isms but rather WITH.
EDIT: Which slur did Ross use, BTW? I haven’t watched that show in eons, and I don’t remember any.

I’m not your buddy, guy!
