My parents, and their friends. I still remember being mortified the first time I went to a movie with my new friends in collage. I got up to leave and left all my junk in the seat as usual. They were like “hey dude, what are you doing? Pick up your shit.” I looked around and noticed I was the only one not taking my trash. I felt like such a loser. I picked it up immediately. But I still cringe thinking about how many people were probably judging my whole family as we walked a way from our mess at the end of each movie when I was little. A few people have tried to tell me that was just how it was done back then, and there were not garbage cans available on the way out. But I think that is probably not true.

The cigarette butt thing is even weirder to me. I don’t smoke, but my mom still does. She is a super pro nature, pro environment person, but she throws cigarette butts everywhere she goes. She insists its not litter, though she would never litter anything else.

I never complain about someone giving me prepared food. I spend so much of my life obtaining, storing, preparing, and cleaning up after making food that I see any meal given to me as a wonderful gift of time.

I agree. I aggressively abstain from devices that can spy on me. But the pressure to cave mounts more and more as the monopolies do their best to leave us no choice. I don’t think I could buy a new car that does not use the cell network to transmit all my data back to the manufacture for example. Even when it comes to just basic activities like going to a sporting event or booking a campsite I’m often forced to either use my phone or not go at all.

This one confuses me. I never receive text messages about my packages. I get around 5 deliveries a week on average and maybe a dozen on a heavy week, and I have never had a reason to get my phone involved. The package is either delivered successfully, or I can see from the seller there was an issue, and I deal with them. A few times the delivery service has left a note and I’ve called them. Why are folks even bothering to allow text messages for deliveries?

I agree, Jevon’s is not the perfect way to describe this affect. Is there a better way to classify this? It’s bugged me for a bit as I’ve had good debates about adding biking lanes and better sidewalks instead of just more lanes for cars. But Jevon’s is the best I could come up with.
