It’s never too late to Picross (no really, Jupiter still makes them for Nintendo and you can find them on switch, and you can always pirate them if you have ethical concerns!)

If you want a different flavor, there’s also Final Fantasy Pictlogica (also Jupiter made) but the most recent version is a defunct freemium mobile game. Go 3DS emulation for it.

Oh and honorable mention to indie game Murder By Numbers, although I felt like that was more VN than Picross.

I’m not sure how I’d rate me. I spend plenty of time on my smartphone but I’m playing SNES/GBA/DS with it hooked up to a controller clip so… not the usual use case of social bullshit ruining my mood. I enjoy the fuck out of a good emulation-in-bed night.

I live near enough to know the layout and while it’s mostly just colored line, the streets are still usually bike friendly, assuming you don’t see this nonsense.

What SM did was actually reduce parking to the point that it forced biking or bussing (and made permits for remaining spots, lol). Driving remains is almost all single lane torture with a 25 mph limit, single because when I was a kid it was two lanes and they decided they wanted a dedicated bike lane (specifically thinking Broadway but probably others).

SM is a small place, too. A ton of those miles are in residential areas with little room for expansion.

I was told early on by a D&D playing uncle to never name a character after yourself because you never know what’s going to happen to them. So yeah, important advice in naming.

That said, most of these online games give a warning that the names and messages you give can be public. That’s normally about not making you Pikachu after your precious SSN, especially since they often won’t let you name him Fuckface or something because of a filter.

I’ll keep that in mind. Quite a few of the games need a battery change but I think you’re right about LttP. I emulate though so it’s not as essential as it used to be, it’ll be more relevant when I want to share the old ways with my kids when they’re a little older.

It’s probably too late for me, but I don’t think I care about saves older than 10 years. I can’t even remember what I was doing in a game a week later, let alone a decade.

Does it permanently bork any new saves, though? I know my SNES Z:LttP had permanent save issues but I think that’s a different story.

Technically Yuzu was, allegedly, using something proprietary to run properly. I think the same is true of Ryujinx, although not sure. Now I’m not sure if it’s true, given they settled out of court, and honestly we do know the REAL reason is the bottom line but legally they can’t use that argument. Ironically I don’t think it’s even illegal to profit off an emulator, lol.

That said, emulators are legal in the same way a bong is legal while weed might not be. It’s technically illegal to use roms/isos you yourself didn’t rip, even if you have the cartridge or disk (and thus, license) of that game because it’s not a copy of your cartridge or disk, but it’d be pretty annoying to prove you didn’t rip it yourself as you’d probably need to go into the code to see if there’s a unique identifier. I’m not sure if that’s ever been tested in court, though I wouldn’t want to try it.
