I always assumed that’s why the cheaper longer term storage took so long to recover (having to physically retrieve copies, even if it’s automated), but I have no real knowledge on it. Interesting.

I built Frankenstein’s NAS out of parts from 4 old DDR3 gaming PCs and a pile of drives from old workstations. Just need a good case with tons of bays/fans.

Sure, it not power efficient, and some of those drives will die over the next few years, but it will get better (cope).

(Just add larger HDD in pairs as referbs go on flash sales, for only 2x more than they were last year… And pray for the hardware crash or more cash)

Even as I slowly learn most of the meanings, and shifting sub-cultures, I still don’t need to know. I mean, I listen if I care about the person, but I’m not trying to be a matchmaker so I don’t really have a reason to know the details, I don’t even want to be overly involved in boring cis/het people’s dating lives, or those of my (slightly less, but still boring) gay friends. I identify as old and indifferent, I’ll just be happy if you’re happy.

I’m not using any “forced on me” AI products, other than as a search engine aid, and I have better tools for that now anyway.

I do, absolutely use AI. I use local, self hosted small focused AI that run on old hardware I was just using to self host media and games anyway.

Want do my AI do? Lots of boring organizing, text/voice recognition, and script/simple coding for hobby projects and such, all offline. For online stuff there are private large models vailable, but those cost money and I’m cheap.

If I lost it all? Well it would just take me longer to do the boring stuff and have less time for fun stuff edit

I was implying that one needs a basic level of tech literacy to even think about cameras as always being on. (As evidenced by the OP, and the poster who replied to me)

As WE know, “I shut off the camera” does not mean the camera is not recording, and “I shut off the WIFI” does not mean the data is secure. Some do not know this.
