It always surprises me that so many people confuse HR to be on their side, the employees side. HR has never been nor ever will be on the employees side, they are a tool for the employer. They are on the employers side, and the bosses who are of course also on the employers side.

Yes, but they also usually know the law and can shut down a boss that’s going to get the company sued. Occasionally this can benefit a worker.
One of my coworkers got let go last week. I don’t know the details but he came in to help kick start a project. He did his job and then he got let go.
