That was my assumption. They can already predict stuff like your age from just your habits and search history. Getting you to show your id gives a lot of different info that can be cross referenced for fun.
And advertising, as another commenter pointed out. It’s becoming difficult to distinguish between LLM slop and potential consumers, which is causing ad revenue to drop. With ID they can promise marketing to real humans.
