Florida gubernatorial candidate James Fishback says his plan to visit every Waffle House in Florida to “meet voters where they are” has been derailed.
That’s because he’s been banned, he said.
In a release posted to X on Thursday, March 5, Fishback shared a statement saying that “this morning, Waffle House abruptly revoked our permission, and criminally trespassed us from all of their Florida locations.”
Fishback, a Republican and one of 41 current candidates to replace outgoing Gov. Ron DeSantis, said he had previously received permission from Waffle House’s corporate office to visit every location in Florida to “meet voters where they are.”
I think it might be something to do with the whole “pop up restersunt with our brand name.” Idea, or am I misunderstanding and that was devised after the ban

Last September, Fishback admitted to sharing confidential company information with people outside the firm at least 33 times, maintaining an undisclosed personal trading account, and engaging a college student in a campaign to discredit Greenlight’s founder, David Einhorn, according to a joint court filing from the company and Fishback.
Fishback agreed to return any confidential information in his possession, delete any copies and pay legal costs, the filing said.
In 2022, the Broward County School District cut ties with Fishback and Incubate Debate after he was alleged to have an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student, NBC News reported. He was 27 at the time. A judge denied her petition for protection and Fishback has denied all wrongdoing.
On the campaign trail, Fishback raised eyebrows when he said he joined Tinder to meet young female voters and then asked for donations to subscribe to Tinder Plus.
Fishback has also posted questionable comments about current gubernatorial frontrunner U.S. Rep Byron Donalds, who is Black. In one X post he said, “By’rone wants to turn Florida into a Section 8 ghetto.” In another post he suggested Donalds was a “slave” to his political donors.

Businesses should have the right to refuse service to whomever they want. I expect Fishback supports that.

They don’t…“criminal tresspass you”. They tell you that they don’t want you on their property. At that point, you need to leave. If you enter after that point, then you might be charged by the state with trespassing.
There’s different types of trespass.
When people say “criminal trespass” as a verb, it is referencing a specific subset of trespass, that being you have been specifically told not to enter or to leave, as you stated.
This generally applies to businesses or other places where you would expect to be allowed by default.
Just entering someone’s private property without explicit permission, like cutting across their yard while on a walk, is also trespass, even if you have not been specifically told not to. Generally a second degree misdemeanor.
Entering a dwelling without explicit permission, even without breaking and entering, is a different kind of trespass that is generally a first degree misdemeanor.
Using “criminal trespass” as a verb is common for the type where you have been specifically singled out and warned off, most often by a business, and I personally feel it’s a stupid use of language but it is how people talk.
