A federal jury in Manhattan on Monday found former star real estate brokers Oren and Tal Alexander and their brother Alon guilty on all 10 counts of sex trafficking and related crimes. During a five-week trial, prosecutors said the Alexander brothers worked together to drug and rape scores of women, including minors, from at least 2008 to 2021. Eleven women testified that one or more of the brothers had sexually assaulted them, and jurors were shown a video Oren Alexander recorded of himself raping an incapacitated 17-year-old girl in 2009.
For those also curious, these are not the property brothers who were prominently featured on HGTV.
Also, there is apparently video evidence of a rape of an unconscious underage girl and their lawyers still had the gall to say:
“We believe in our clients’ innocence,” Marc Agnifilo, a lawyer for Oren Alexander, said after the verdict. “We’re going to keep fighting.” U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni set sentencing for Aug. 6. The brothers, incarcerated since their 2024 arrests, face up to life in prison.
I believe that everyone is entitled to the best defense possible, but that is a ridiculous statement to make given the evidence.
But that’s a lawyer’s job. Rule number 1 is you never admit guilt… the prosecutor’s job is to prove your guilt, and you never make it easy for them to do so.
I’m sorry but thats not “we believe our clients innocence”. That is a statement of almost certain inaccuracy from their knowledge and a pretty huge sign of their lack of values. Neither needs to fold into being a good lawyer and defending your client.
But yeah, sure, I gave up earning money by quitting my job on values. That doesn’t mean they need to, it just means they chose money over being decent humans
Fuck them
I mean, that’s literally a lawyer’s job and required by law. If you represent someone, you represent them in their entirety. You can turn down clients, but there’s little money in only defending innocent people
Not many lawyers get into the profession because they want to be decent humans… their job involves people paying them money to be on their side so obviously a defense attorney’s values are motivated very heavily by money.
I’m not a lawyer, and I did mention in my above comment that everyone deserves the best defense possible, but I’m pretty sure you can say “this is an injustice”, “my clients and I will appeal”, many other things which are not explicitly stating that they are innocent after literally watching one of them rape an unconscious child. This was not in court, and I understand the court of public opinion plays a part in cases, but you’ll have to forgive me if I think this is beyond what is required of a good defense attorney.
Also, I’m pretty sure there are cases (like diddy) where there is a reliance on at least some admission of guilt, and the presumption is that though you may be guilty of a crime, it’s not as severe or deserving of the punishment the prosecution is seeking.
I don’t think many reasonable people would hear a person’s attorney make such a statement, especially after a guilty verdict on such a horrible charge, and wouldn’t recognize it as the lawyer just saying what a lawyer should be saying… he’s not trying to persuade anyone other than his client in continuing to fight - because keeping the case going results in more money.
Okay? But why are they on trial? I thought in America that would qualify them for a place in the White House.
They aren’t the right kind of rich for that. Still a well placed couple of mil might get them a tasty pardon.
