Every European (and I guess non-Europeans as well) can vote what our next Euro design will be: https://surveys.ecb.europa.eu/10b/neweuro/
About ten different designs are available and about half of them feature birds instead of boring people.
I really like the bird designs as they symbolise freedom without borders. Hope one of them gets chosen in the end.
They don’t want ugly green enslavers?
I love how many of these designs are clearly influenced by the old Dutch Guilders bank note designs. See this for a documentary about it on YouTube.
Im not even that big on birds but the bird designs are so much better than the people ones and also in general i dont think people on banknotes are that good of an idea. Birds on the other hand are something we can all relate to and should think about more cause many species are in danger.
Many of the people designs felt like they were for a corporate convention/seminar, or maybe a local library, not an EU banknote. Bravo to them for trying something new, but on the other hand, ew.
I know I’m commenting on a bird community. But I don’t want all the notes to have birds & buildings.
The other design is much worse though.
There’s really only 2 options: birds and select few people. Why though? What’s wrong with the current notes? Can’t we have more than 2 options? I hate both of them.
There were votes a few years ago. The two variants are the result of those.
I guess some people in Brussels have to justify their positions and spend millions doing so.
I’m perfectly happy with the current design and I also wouldn’t mind the birds but the EU institutes on the other side I do mind. It’s just where the EU is governed from and that’s really not important and just stokes the ego of the people sitting there. Put something significant on it.
Boobies, Great Tits, Bushtits, Dickcissel, Cock-of-the-rock. There are so many options!
That’s so beautiful, my father love birds and is a numismatic, too bad we aren’t european and euro is very expensive to obtain here
If Canada joins the EU, the noble Turkey can appear on the $1 euro note.
stylistically, some of them are really pretty, some of them are really ugly.
as others have said, i think people are a bad idea, unless they have all kinds of local or special editions like with coins.
i think birds are kinda cool. not sure why only birds as animals, and not other animals too. i would have also liked trees or other plants, or even mushrooms. but oh well.
i don’t like having people on bank notes because it is really hard to pick which ones are inportant, and you can’t choose enough of them, many people will get left out. also, i don’t like the idea of worshipping people.
We did our part for the birds <3
Europe still has birds?
The downside is that there would be buildings on the other side of the bank notes.
Better than whatever bullshit the other option is. People on EU banknotes are just not okay since they still represent a country and also wtf is the shit on the back of those human notes supposed to even be??
I really do not understand why those people would represent just a country and not Europe. By the same logic, they may represent only their region, or their town.
Yeah and its a problem either way.
Yeah that could be heavy to carry around.
Makes sense, since money also isn’t real.
There’s a reason they call it a flock of cameras.
Done. I feel bad saying I hate the other designs, but I am sure they’re going to grade these scaled.
No penguins? Speciesism, that’s what it is.
France has lots of territories in the Antarctic region, so technically penguins can be considered native to the EU sort of (though the overseas territories are governed a bit differently than the “core” EU states)
It’s there right next to the emu and the kookaburra.
I wish they had different animals. Like birds for the 5€ (light), bears for the 200€ (heavy), and different animals in between.
And for the back famous art paintings.
