Mmm, maybe originally or theoretically, but not in practice. At least not online, or not in Lemmy. Usually what I’ve seen is the word used by someone who can’t accept the realities of Western supremacy and American imperialism and feels your “criticism” and moral judgement of it is too harsh.

I’d like to believe I wouldn’t, but I’m a flawed man, and going crazy with my words is one of my big ones. Hopefully, God willing, I won’t. I have become a much more considerate and softer person thanks to my wife, maybe that’ll be enough.

But I have, actually, many times. Especially in uni and highschool, I’d be the one to approach the quiet kid cause I just wasn’t comfortable with them feeling excluded. I made a really good friend in uni that way, a quiet, very clever and responsible ginger dude (in a country of brown people, he was basically a mythological being, lol) I ended up spending many of my afternoons with, just yapping and toking our late teens away. 🙏

I didn’t say that, that was the person I was replying to, but let me see: maybe. It’s the intersection of being both white (of European descent) and American (most likely the descendant of genocidal settlers and, if not, at least part of the in group by now) that makes her more likely to act this way because of a personal shortcoming, a flawed character, instead of something else like drugs (even if I want to believe otherwise because I’d rather ignore some things and remain sane and hopeful). Americans are largely confused and propagandised, white Americans are straight up insane and bloodthirsty (else the entirety of American history wouldn’t have taken place), at least on average and relative to the rest of the world. This country elected Trump, Bush, Nixon, etc and tacitly accepts or even encourages and fully supports the police harassing, assaulting, murdering and now kidnapping minorities, let’s be real for a second and accept white Americans are, on average and as part of the country, “bad people”.

Let’s put it this way: I’ve never seen such chutzpah except for in European Americans, and Israelis, of course. I don’t think it has much to do with race by itself, or at all even, but more to do with the sociocultural background of these groups (being an imperialist amoral little devil doesn’t help your overall attitude, I guess). Correlation, not causation, basically.

Perhaps the wrong lessons, like “maybe we should’ve destabilised the country a bit more before we started our outward aggression, this ‘loss’ cannot be as easily sold to the average jingoistic American”. 😔

The West is Zionist tolerant in general and we’re in Western online communities so it’s expected. Nonetheless, the fact that even a small group of Westerners would denounce Western supremacy and surrounding narratives as often as I see it here is both surprising and really sweet, it keeps me hopeful.

I think she was genuinely having a bad trip. Yes, it’s unbecoming to act that way but I’d rather give her the benefit of the doubt and think some drugs she took disagreed with her than think she’s just an awful and very difficult person regularly. 🥲

I love my cat but she’s basically useless and untrainable, the only thing she has going for her is that she’s fluffy and occasionally cuddly (which is enough for me, ofc!). Dogs are actually useful, cats are just nice to look at and cuddle with. 🤷
