Not shitting on the idea but I bought a FairPhone5 that includes to what this suggests. Each main component (so not chipset) can be unscrewed and replaced easily, chsrgrt port, camera, speaker, removable battery.

As of next month every major telco that owns infrastructure in the contrary will have blocked the IMEI (the first part identifies the phone and model) and will be unusable. Even unusable with a data only sim.

It will only work on WiFi.

Guess im just venting but id love to see how this concept could help in the situation.

WhatsApp and meta have had a number of data breaches and accoint losses due to how the technology functions.

Signal is so secure that Defence use it. There’s articles of russia “hacking” singal but looking into them shows it’s only via social enginnnering to scan a QR code. Its so secure from accoint and data loss that signal literally can only give minimal evidence in court (compared to the Proton VPN stuff recently).

But TBH you might want to look into “How convince people of Y when they want X”. Your friends want vinilla and you want chocolate. Its not specifically about WhatsApp vs signal.

I came from Bitwarden where the community recommendation was to not store passwords and 2FA together in the cloud. If a beach orccurs and you lose both then there wasn’t a point in having the 2FA.

Less of a risk with a local solution but still not sure.

Do you store TOTP in a seperate KeePass?

For me swappog between two Keepass DBs is annoying. I can’t find anything that will sync my 2FAs.

• don’t ever update security
• setup folder share on network with all or more of the above issues

My country blocked FairPhone 5 IMEIs, even though it meets requirements, as its not officially sold. Among other popular and official brands.

They basically can limit what phones you have now.
