0·1 day agoA Ferengi ship? Interesting choice!
TIL that I’ve always been looking at them backwards. I always thought the curved section was the front.

0·1 day agoHad to look that one up and recognized the USS Aventine from ST: Destiny. Definitely looks like a cool ship. Assuming the models of it are from ST: online?

The only limitation is you can only have one widget. So if your home screen is typically widget-heavy, this probably isn’t for you.
It also only sorts apps alphabetically, but that’s how I like it, so isn’t an issue for me.

0·1 day agomaybe they don’t use plasma at all?
Never even thought of that. There was a lot of dialog and plot points about finding alternatives to warp after the Burn, and we know they still use dilithium as a regulator, so I assumed they’re still using the same M/A reaction as before. But it’s very possible they extract the energy from the reaction in completely novel ways now.
Was just assuming the same way as we’ve always known because (checks notes) the nacelles still light up blue lol.

0·1 day agoI could but probably won’t. I’ve already settled on DS9 mixed with a nap or 3 as my reward for surviving a really crappy and stressful week at work.

0·2 days agoGood catch. I knew Book’s ship did the fancy, in-flight reconfiguration but never caught the Discovery refit using similar capabilities. Guess it was a subtle thing I just missed.

Like the Triceratops of starships. Hopefully that Jurassic Park reference makes sense.

the principle that various simple geometric shapes like triangles and squares are the basis of all compositional arrangements.

0·2 days agoAlso quite fond of pre-Burn Discovery’s “retro Art Deco” style.
I almost added “retro Art Deco of the Crossfield class” to my examples but wasn’t 100% sure that was right. Thanks for confirming lol. But definitely love the style of it.
And yeah, I’m still warming up to the detached nacelles of the 31st century ships. I’m assuming it makes sense in-universe, but my brain is still trying to figure out how.

0·3 days agoDefinitely those two. Ep. 4 and the Klingon’s space play-fight with the Federation over the planet so they could “conquer” it was as adorable as it was believable. After 900 years, losing their homeworld, and nearly going extinct, they still hold on to their code of honor which is the only thing they really have left. Incredibly well done.
As for ep 5, I always shed a tear of happiness when a later series revisits DS9.

0·3 days agoOh, “The Dark Veil”, yeah. It wasn’t bad but was definitely the weakest of the 5. I could swear the entire plotline was recycled if not from Trek itself then from some adjacent sci-fi.*
The only one I haven’t read is the Rios one since it’s the only one I can’t buy DRM-free. “Second Self” (the Raffi one) and “Firewall” (the Seven one) were both excellent.
*Or maybe the reclusive aliens on the ark ship in Dark Veil were just similar enough to the reclusive Caeliar and their planet ship in ST: Destiny that I had read shortly before.

Until I enlarged the thumbnail, I at first thought this was a cross-section of a cruise ship which is a totally different type of hell.
