Legislators have no idea how technical stuff works. Imagine imposing this requirement on a Raspberry Pi, which has no document scanner or webcam to scan your Government Approved ID or Unique Human Face. Either the device has to be mandated to include a camera or some other similar bullshit, or it doesn’t have a way to scan your face or ID. So it would be noncompliant by default, but if you could mandate a camera is included, then you’d have to mandate that it requires the scan and gatekeeps the operation of the device without it, and so on… just a bunch of ridiculous bullshit.
There’s an episode of Black Mirror about exactly that and it was hella depressing. I think it starred Chris O’Dowd and Mya Rudolph, who are both usually really funny actors, but it was the opposite of funny.
A few years ago the IRS website wanted me to take a “video selfie” using a webcam to log in to access my tax stuff. I said Fuck That and ended the session. Finished my taxes through a 3rd party vendor instead.

I watched some local news yesterday where they covered the various explosions across the Middle East. They discussed the activity, the damage, the losses of life… then they pivoted to a local news reflection on what this all would mean for us at the gas pumps. “Gas prices expected to rise” as the chief takeaway for us to ponder how it affects us, immediately after discussions of hundreds of human beings being literally exploded. Makes me sick.
It means they suck as people, and generally have compromised morality.
