  • Also, important to remember the distinction here. This was all because the only aspect Anthropic was actually against was AI being allowed to make kill decisions. They are fine with the DOD using their AI tech, just not fine with AI making kill decisions. So it’s not like they were saying “no, you can’t use our tech at all.”. Anthropic AI is definitely still in use by the US government… Just not using it for AI to make decisions on who to kill.

I mean… imho that’s a distinction without a difference. Sure a human will have the final say, but they will be working from what the AI produced, which could be hallucinated and unless the human checks the output against the actual evidence, they will just sign off on a kill order from hallucinated AI “analysis.” In other words essentially the same result as having the AI make the kill order itself.

So, just remember to not treat Anthropic like heroes for doing the bare minimum.

  • The one small consolation is that we don’t have a military draft, and most young people who pursue the military have a family with military service background. However, the other largest cohort are young people with no family support structures at all, so they give their lives to the war machine to try to do things like get an education.

Still, people choosing to enter military service is way down and more US citizens than ever fail to meet the fitness standards and requirements.

So, it’s not really “your kids” unless you chose to push them to military service or were such a bad/absent/dead parent that they had few other choices.

Now, if they try re-instating the draft, than this meme will be a lot more accurate.

This of course is not meant to minimize how insane this push for war is, nor how damaging it will be to those who are in military service, for whom this meme is very accurate.

  • company called CiviClick, which bills itself as “the first and best AI-powered grassroots advocacy platform.”

I have been saying this since 2016, when we were dealing with both Cambridge Analytica and Correct the Record flooding the internet with paid political speech masquerading as real people with real opinions who weren’t being paid to spout nonsense.

Paid political speech online whether by a human or a bot, should legally be required to state that they are being paid to promote their statements. There should be hefty penalties, large fines for single instances (one person, one message) up to prison time for an organized group (something akin to RICO). The fines/prison time should be even more severe when AI generated messages are fraudulently being promoted as real humans, simply due to the industrial speed and scale AI generation allows.

Paid political advertising on television and radio has for a long time been required to state that it is paid. This should have been priority number one from the Democrats when Biden got into office and they held slim majorities in both houses,

Sure, there’s nothing we can do about foreign bot farms, but that’s not what this article is about. This is about a US company based in our nations capital whose goal is to spread disinformation abusively to impact public comment. This is a private company absolutely flooding an agency with an open public comment period for an agency proposition and killing the proposition through messages that are not from real people at all but from AI.

The fact that getting this under control at the very least within our own borders is not a priority for any politicians is a fucking travesty and makes our entire democratic apparatus an outright farce.
