See, there are the same propaganda bubbles as on reddit where you get banned from voicing a different opinion. But here those bubbles are on instance level. So memes on lemmy.northkorea might actually not be memes but kim posting propaganda. I think the fediverse does a better job at keeping ban horny admins at bay. But it comes with added complexity and more disparsed communities.

Most of these places wouldnt exist without tourism. We see alot of population decrease and eventual vanishing of rural villages. So unless your place is a strategic trade hub or has some remarkeable industry, it most likely only exists because of tourism. The problem however is in these times, tourists money doesnt go to locals but to big international hotel/restaurant/shopping/cruise companies.
