It’s scary, but also very unsurprising. Companies haven’t seen their workers as actual human beings for many years. That’s the bigger problem that is behind all of this.
I think a lot, sometimes too much! 🌠

They thought they could treat their workers shitty and it backfired spectacularly on them! I only wish karma was this quick and brutal for other firms that treat their workers the same way.
The big problem is that we’re not just up against plain stupidity, we’re also up against organised and weaponised stupidity that is being enabled and fanned by those in power and the media, and also their billionaire backer donors, who want to drag us all the way back to the medieval ages.
That’s much more sadistic and worse than plain stupidity which we are all guilty of from time to time until we learn better. With organised and weaponised stupidity, they don’t want us to learn better, because our ignorance benefits their wallets.

That terminal he is typing on is pretty much the physical ancestor of the terminal emulators we use today in Linux!
I’ll often order stuff from Ebay/Amazon even though the shop is right across from me. It’s partial anxiety but also mostly pure laziness.
Weren’t elders/shamans/gurus looked up to as sort of spiritual and worldly advisor/authority figures back then? Granted, it’s not the same as being a chief/leader, but they talked, and their community listened and generally followed their advice.
Explorers 1985! I love this movie to bits and never knew it was considered a flop until recently.
We’re advising her to be cautious, not advising her to call the whole thing off. What’s so wrong with that?
It’s quite possible that he is indeed a generous person, but still be careful. Truly generous people like that are very far and few in between, at least in my own experience, so most are usually that nice early on when they want something from you. Not trying to put him down, because we don’t know him… But be careful.
How long have you known him? If you two have only just met or met very recently then it’s very weird behaviour for sure. Heck it’s a little weird him being this forward so soon, if you did know each other only as friends before this.

Yep! I’ve known people to get banned for using far left terminology and with nothing threatening either being said. It seems if you piss off one of the mods on there on one of their bad days, then it can easily be game over for your time in that sub, or even your account. it’s that easy to catch a ban that you probably have less chance of catching a cold lmfao. Reddit has given the mods far too much power. I’m so glad for the Fediverse!

This would be such a cool thing, too bad it will only be used to scrape our data in order to sell us more ads. There are far too many technologies and concepts that have been ruined already due to bloody greed.
Ok I had a reply typed up here last night but I must have deleted it by accident :/ it was a post saying how cool it all is and thanking you for explaining it!

Umm no, Lemmy is not Reddit and I’m so glad it’s not. It’s nowhere near as buggy for a start, and if an instance has issues you can just hop on to and browse another one instead of the whole fediverse and communities being inaccessible like on Reddit. Reddit was one of the most buggy things I’d ever used and I lost count the amount of times I had to close the app and reopen it again because profiles or posts would not load.
And another fantastic thing I just found out: karma has almost no meaning here!!! Not like on Reddit where a low enough karma could get your account in trouble and stop your posts and comments being seen. Here on Lemmy you can continue to have actual discussions without anything stupid like that getting in the way. People can contribute from day one without fear of shadowbans!!
So whatever problems Lemmy and the fediverse may have, I will take it any day over the buggy and karma obsessed cesspit that Reddit has become. Reddit used to be a place for disscussion when I joined there 5 years ago, now it’s just a collection of data harvesting echo chambers.
Lemmy is what Reddit used to be.
Yeah, they are getting a little too comfortable with the ban hammer over there. I’ve been reading threads of others that had the same thing happen to them. Soo glad I’m not alone and so glad I found this place!
I just looked up feddit.online, but what is it exactly? Is it a Lemmy instance or more a collection of different instances on one feed? I’m still new to the Fediverse and the whole thing so sorry if I sound ignorant.
Absolutely disgusting. I don’t even live in America and yet I feel so furious at this. The nation which is supposed to be leading the world instead seems all too intent on dragging it and everyone with it back to the stone age.
