I get hella stoned and watch Foodfight! at least once a year. It’s my “favorite” movie.
Everything about it, from the implied beastiality between Charlie Sheen and Hillary Duff, to the weird gay bat, to the shitweasel
is a masterclass in what not to do in a movie. It transcends badness and becomes something sublime. The entire plot is about how store brands/generics are Nazis, and one of the Nazis absolutely chews the scenery in a way that makes Brian Blessed look reserved.
By all accounts The Boondock Saints is a “bad” movie but we all watched it when we were 12 and thought it was fucking awesome and still do.
I heard this was a cult classic or something. I was disappointed. Dafoe is the only good part
Glad others think so. I never cared for it. All my friends loved it.
Bad? By whom? I fucking love that film.
Oh no. I haven’t watched it since I was a teenager, please don’t ruin my memories.
it’s legitimately awful
Can’t be, it has Willem Dafoe chewing the scenery
There was a FIREFIGHT!!!
wish he would chew my scenery
And it’s so great because of it.
Ice pirates is way up there. Amazing cast, great sets, the absolute dumbest plot.
Yes! My god! I found my person on Lemmy.
You and I are going to do fun things. Once I clear up my space herpes.
Getting any? by Takeshi Kitano, the greatest filmmaker ever. https://boxd.it/13h6
While pursuing his dream of having car sex, a goofy middle-aged man makes all the wrong moves and ends up enrolling in a number of crazy escapades.
It’s so bad it’s good.
Bulletproof Monk. It’s corny but it puts a smile on my face every time.
If you like that movie, i suggest the run down.
You like thunderstorms? Huh big boy? A little thunder, a little lightning…?
AKA Welcome to the Jungle outside the US. Fun movie.
But why do hot dogs come in packs of 6 and buns come in packs of 8?
Wolfcop
I Frankenstein (2014). Aaron Eckhart as the monster who gets pulled into a centuries long war between demons and gargoyles. It tries to capitalize on the success of the Underworld franchise and goes nuts with CGI effects. It’s objectively bad but it’s also FUN. If you shut off your brain and don’t overanalyze, its a blast.
Equilibrium (2002) wasn’t well received when it came out. I think it’s still “bad” on RT but imdb has it at 7.3 now. I don’t care if gun-kata is silly and dumb, it looks cool as fuck.
I definitely gave up on it half way through and made up my own ending.
I loved that movie, thanks for reminding me about it.
This was one of my favorites as a kid. It was heavily influenced by The Matrix obviously
In the DVD commentary, the writer/director talked about how he’d had the basic idea, including gun kata, since high school. He could have been lying but I think he was honest and this was sort of a case of independent parallel ideas, since somebody turbo nerdy enough to come up with gun kata probably had influence from Hong Kong action movies that similarly influenced The Matrix.
The action style and flow is much different than The Matrix, and while both plots are about fighting the system, Equilibrium is much more straight forwardly grabbing element from classic dystopias.
I feel like I saw that too… DVD extras were great
The tagline on the movie box even said as much: “Forget ‘The Matrix’! This movie will blow you away!”
I don’t think that proves much besides marketing people slapping anything on a cover long after the movie was made.
The end fight where he slides the clips for future use is chef kiss good
It’s the Matrix except the main character has the same name as my Dad. So, A+
The dog scene absolutely broke me. Probably the hardest I cried at a movie when I saw it for the first time.
Have you watched Grave of the Fireflies? I cried for hours afterwards. One of the best movies I’ve seen. Refuse to watch it again.
You should try Dolls by Kitano. It’s a bunch of failed love stories, music is awesome, I cry every time.
Never heard of it. Radarr is doing it’s thing. Thanks for the suggestion!
“Sense offender!”
Six String Samurai.
“Nice tuxedo… nice tuxedo TO DIE IN!”
That Speed Racer movie that the Wachowskis made. I’m not gonna pretend it’s underrated, and I’m not gonna try to convince you to like it. They made it for me and me alone.
I watched that one in theatres! I also watched Baby Geniuses 2, Meet the Spartans, and the Ridiculous 6 in theatres because I guess I attract garbage.
They just released a remastered Blu-ray of it! I bought the disc, but I didn’t actually have a Blu-ray player, so idk if they did a good job with the remaster yet.
A remaster??? I hope they made it more colorful.
Thanks for mentioning this! I just ordered it.
People didn’t like that? It’s my favorite movie to watch on acid or shrooms.
That movie is so good!!!
It’s fantastic. They didn’t bother to make it “relatable” or “more realistic”, just “we’re literally doing, shot for shot, the anime as a movie, and fuck you if you don’t like it”. It’s shameless, joyful fun the entire way, and honestly more movies should embrace the camp and just run with it.
Raw Force (1982)
Martial arts students visit an island with ghosts of dishonored fighters. They encounter a Hitler lookalike running a female slavery operation, leading to encounters with cannibals, piranhas, zombies, and chaos.
Absolutely stupid low budget insanity.
They watched Raw Force on one of my favorite episodes of Best of the Worst!
That’s what introduced me to it. I immediately had to track it down and watch the entire thing.
I’ve discovered a number of my favourite B movies through those guys.
I also think that Bigfoot vs DB Cooper could be an amazing film if done properly, but its a shame the title has been ruined.
Pterodactyl (from 2004, with Coolio).
Moron Movies.
Imagine if your uncle who thinks he’s hilarious bought a camcorder and recorded an hour and a half of short skits.
It’s so terrible, but kudos for Len Cella for putting in the effort and making it happen!
I guess maybe Groove (2000) it’s a completely unrealistic presentation of the whole rave scene at the time, but it still feels cozy lol
I remember Groove. I liked it, but I saw it when I was 16 and grew up in the boonies and had no idea what a rave actually was. Still don’t. Loved the part where the drugs kicked in for that one dude.
Explorers 1985! I love this movie to bits and never knew it was considered a flop until recently.
“It’s what dreams are made of.”
“Go. To. Hell.”
Oh I love that movie, I think we rented it like 50 times when I was a kid
Hocus Pocus - “Dance until you die.”
I thought you meant the H-Street skateboard video with the same name. That video is one of skateboarding’s most influential videos ever.
