They seriously need to build more apartments and condos with concrete instead of thin wood in the US.
Concrete is a desaster from an environmental perspective and there are other ways to dampen sound between two apartment units such as clay, straw, lime, hemp etc.
It’s both sides. The industry ultimately just serves end customers and putting it all on them is just an attempt to shift the responsibility away from users. If people weren’t buying all the meat, cars, electronics etc. the industry would disappear.

As a German, I spent several weeks in Switzerland hiking in the mountains with a backpack and a tent. You can absolutely travel on a budget there if you’re fine with that simple lifestyle and you bring your own equipment. I don’t think my daily budget was more than 20 CHF per person a day. If you shop minimalistic (lentils, couscous, pasta etc.) I’m sure you can go even below 5 CHF.
Even if you didn’t pay them at all, a restaurant should be more expensive than cooking yourself. A restaurant still has plenty of other costs (rent, insurance, furniture, kitchen supplies etc.) and usually ingredients aren’t that much cheaper in wholesale to make up for the difference.
Some are even hard to understand for native German speakers. ich_iel has lots of jokes in so-called ‘pliers german’ which is a mix of German and word-by-word translated English terms. It’s not really understood by an average German you’d ask on the streets.
I think it’s something in the middle. Consumers are to blame for consumption, but corps are also investing huge amounts in creating that demand in the first place (marketing, lobbyism, etc.).

I’m the commenter who eats once a day. Not sure, if that’s the information you’re looking for, but I could easily do 48 hours without negative impact on my well being. I don’t do “real” fasting, but my body is really forgoving in the meantime. I don’t feel hangry or tired. If I can’t get my food in time, I’ll just get it later. Sometimes it feels like a tiny superpower compared to other people who sometimes seem to really suffer in such situations.
I’m on a vegan diet and I would say that I eat quite a big variety of food. Many vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, rice, quinoa, chick peas, pasta variations, also some meat alternatives, soy yoghurt etc. I rarely eat exactly the same meal twice, but improvise a lot.
Yes, usually I eat ~1800-3000 kcal for dinner.
I only eat once a day for years now. Not really for weight loss, but rather because it saves a lot of time and allows me to spend more time on preparing one really satisfying and healthy meal instead of just snacks and fast food. I still eat sweets and stuff if I feel like, but it’s easier to control and keep track of nutrients etc.
I completely stopped buying from Amazon ~1.5 years ago, but I also still use it from time to get an overview on prices and available products. If I find something interesting there, I’ll search & buy it elsewhere.
