Sort of, but it isn’t in my view very well deserved. There is certainly quite a bit of FUD here in the fediverse, but sometimes it feels manufactured.

The CEO has made, and partially walked back, some statements favoring right wing groups, but it was mostly antitrust stuff, so I think it is mostly rich person doing rich person things.

But they claim to be politically neutral, and they are a Swiss company which already puts it in a tier above anything hosted in many other western countries.

The services themselves are technically very well done, and the applications for using them are also very good. They have a new drive cli which is good. The password manager is great. VPN is good too. The mail bridge they provide is also very good if you want to use third party mail apps but with the benefit of their encryption.

There are other services that compete strongly on each of those and more, but I don’t think any do when considering the full suite.

Fortunately it’s that awe inspiring battery technology where the power can be remotely stored and transmitted over millions of kilometers.

I think Proton is quite good. They lack one feature that I need, which is integrated contacts on mobile, but once they add that, it will be a complete package.

I used to feel this way and still do to some extent. But he has lost me on the Israel conflict. Certainly on religion itself and philosophy I agree with him a lot. Much like how, conversely, with Mehdi Hassan, I agree a but politically, but not on religion.

The only people I can never recall taking issue with are Hitch and Fry, and even they probably have views I don’t like.

I’m really hoping they do the Laconia story now that the requisite years have passed. Or at least enough that the actors will look correct.

To clarify, I’m not saying any demographic is above poor privacy concerns. But there is a subtle difference between laziness / difficulty understanding how to mitigate the threat and the believe that it isn’t a threat but an okay behavior, however subtle that difference is. I don’t want to sound like an old man tilting at windmills and blaming things on the youth. I actually think it is a problem that they are just suffering, not responsible for.

My guess is most are very young. Goes to show our civil liberties worldwide, especially since 9/11, have eroded tremendously. Young people have grown up in a world where privacy is a joke and government spying is a foregone conclusion.

Maybe, but that number seems arbitrary. Keys are a bit easier to misplace, but phones are more likely to break in a drop. Both need replaced infrequently. When a key is lost, often locks must be rekeyed, meaning new keys for everybody; maybe that’s 5:1. One allows specific keys for specific users. There are of course pros and cons to each. I’m just saying listing all these steps seems to belabor the point.

For a first time open on a new phone sure. But then your comparing it to make requisition for new key blanks, await delivery from manufacturer (could even include mining and smelting), send blanks for cut, cut key, await delivery, document who received which serial number, deliver key to you, put key in key hole, twist key… I mean, I get they’re making a point, but I think it is a bit over inclusive. For me Twilight Princess is the GOAT of single player games, so I agree. And I started gaming at the beginning, so it isn’t just nostalgia for me.

I’m not saying that wrt phones only. But credit cards get skimmed and various other atm pranks. Loads of infrastructure takedowns. Zero days released into the wild with viruses attached. All sorts of shenanigans.

I think many if not most are using WSL, so the interfaces are generally the same.

Point them out to me please. That knowledge can prevent me from the stress of finding out when it’s too late. Knowing you have a stain or some such can at least prevent you from doing something to expose it for example.

If a client asks, “You want to meet for lunch today or tomorrow?” Knowledge is power.

Defcon is not the place I’d want to wear something like that and make myself a target. Of course, I’d be embarrassed to wear them anywhere, but afraid at Defcon.
