Technology@lemmy.world•UK fines Reddit $19 million for using children’s data unlawfullyEnglish
4·6 days agoThe headline is a bit misleading is it not? There is no evidence of children’s data being used unlawfully. (I mean there might I don’t know what counts as “unlawful”) This is just a fine for Reddit not to follow UKs dystopian ideas in time.

Web Development@programming.dev•New beta Stackoverflow frontend. Hot or Not?English
0·6 days agoI really don’t understand why they even did that? Guess the web devs got too bored while the current one worked too well, but that should have maybe been a sign to keep your hands from it.
You don’t even need to be a designer to see how it looks worse even if you are not able to point out what exactly is wrong.
Especially do not get why they got rid of the borders for the sake of minimalism. It adds so much unnecessary mental overhead.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Newish to Fediverse - do I use one account across all services?English
0·9 days agoI have an account in the threadiverse (lemmy, piefed…) and one in microblogverse (mastodon, gotosocial…). just because they behave so differently it is not a great ux to be using only one.
in some instances it does make sense though. if your are not a heavy lemmy user and primarily use mastodon you could just @ the corresponding community in your posts. they will then show up normally here and you can still interact with it. (following communities on mastodon looks bad on mastodons end though)
or if you just want to comment or like a video on peertube you could just do that from any instance. peertube accounts also show up on lemmy like normal communities which is neat.
so in short if your are not planning on using something heavily it is probably enough to just use an account you already have. but like with everything you should just try things out and see what works best for you. :)
fixed the neighbors business card.

FYI: I know this is not “built in” but on Firefox it is super easy to install an AdBlocker, like its about 6 seconds with a decent internet connection and precise mouse movements. Have to opt out of AI shit as well though.
