I’m currently going through the junior year of my high school, that was 20 years ago exactly. It has been 22 years since my favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, had finally broken their Curse of the Bambino in 2004. The Harry Potter main book series ended 19 years ago while the film series ended 15 years ago.
Was looking up one hit wonders and there was a grouping of them that my best friend in high school had burned onto a CD for me…
Twenty years ago.
God
Recently I was listening in on a conversation and someone said “It was 15 years ago” and my reaction to that was “So not that long ago” 💀
About 15 years ago I started hearing Nirvana on classic rock stations.
A few years ago I started to hear “Guns n’ Roses” songs in the local supermarket (think Walmart but in France). I almost vomit.
I remember Modest Mouse getting big and thinking at the time that it was for the generation after me. Just a few years ago I heard Float On in the grocery store. Real circle of life moment.
you, writing that 2004 is 22 years ago
My 20th high school reunion is coming up…
Had friends over for dinner Saturday night. Realized that we’re twice their age.
Y2K was half a lifetime ago.
y2k really highlighted how stupid people were.
cause after it passed, there was soooo much about how it was stupid, pointless, etc, because nothing happened.
completely ignorant and oblivious to all the work that went into making sure it was boring do nothing event.
I ain’t dying at 50 but you do you
The Xbox 360 will be old enough to drink in a couple months.
A lot of bands that I liked when I was in high school are now on 20th anniversary tours of their famous albums.
Also I saw a few Pokemon red 30th anniversary banners while in Japan
That all my fun symptoms are “just peri menopause” FML
Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Savior, HRT?
I do but apparently no doctor around me believes in anything but birth control 🙃
🫂 That’s pretty typical. Getting a doctor who will give a shit about your hormonal health and emotional well-being is hard. The only suggestions I have are to keep trying different doctors, advocate loudly for yourself, and try in a less conservative area.
Online doctors can frequently be more understanding as well, and if you are capable of research and monitoring your health mostly yourself, a good option.
That’s probably my plan when I’m employed again.
In a few months Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released. GTA5 came out in 2013. The time difference between the release of GTA6 and GTA5 is about the same as the time difference between GTA5 and the turn of the millennium.
I can’t believe we got existential dread from comparing GTA release dates before we got GTA6.
I paid a couple kids to shovel my sidewalk. That was the moment I knew I was old.
With age came wisdom
And cash.
And back pain.
When young people started to wear slim jeans. You would have been bullied for wearing such a thing when I was young.
Then a few months later when they started to wear 80s jeans again. Fashion changes every five minutes it seems.
I have shirts that have gone in and out of style three times, according to people who pay attention to such things.
It’s nice how easy it finally is to get baggy pants and good flannels again. Need to stock up before they go out of style again.
Last weekend I bought a switch 2, and a father and son were in front of me. I got the pokopia bundle, they got Mario kart. The kid was telling me pokopia was really good, and asked if I ever played Mario kart. So I told him the last time I played that was on the Nintendo 64 in like 1999 when I was about his age
The kid thinks for a bit, and goes “oh wow, I didn’t know you were an old lady!”
My kids keep asking me if I played the same games when I was their age (Mario Odyssey, Sonic and Mario at the Olympics, Ori and the Blind Forest, etc). I keep telling them that I played other sonic and Mario games, but these specific ones didn’t exist back then. They’re still confused about WTF sort of ancient historical time that was. Same with their Android tablets and asking me if I had one as a kid.
Similarly, I heard a kid call the Xbox 360 “vintage” the other day. I started to argue that it’s not that old. It only released in… (Checks release date)… 2005? Oh shit it’s over 20 years old. That’s the same as child-me considering the NES vintage when I was playing my PS1.
The PS1 came out 10 years after the NES not 20. So you considering the NES vintage in the latter half of the 90s would be like considering the PS1 vintage when the Xbox 360 came out.
Or more recently, thinking the Switch is vintage
Ha. Similarly, I was at a big music festival a few years ago, taking to a random 20- something dude. I mentioned which bands I was there to see and he just yelled “YOU’RE OOOLD!” at me.
Ahahaha
In a way he kinda complimented you! You don’t look or seem old, at least 😆
Yeah, it’s sort of a compliment I guess.
Old meaning experienced gamer!
Snoop and Eminem are grandparents.
Ugh, okay, that hurt
The Beloit/Mindset list that comes out every year. It takes the form of “This year’s college freshman have always/never ______”. For instance, they’ve always had GPS in their pocket. They’ve never used a desktop computer. $Celebrity has always been dead. It’s always been a post-9/11 world.
Each year, that list always makes me feel old.
