I recall reading this story months ago. The Canadian government and Marine land have been trying to find a solution for the last whales in Canada.
Marine Land claims it is running out of funds to feed the whales, let alone provide a suitable home for them. Some Canadians were against euthanizing the whales.
A wild sanctuary was discussed, but one is still not established, and has many unknowns whether it would be successful.
The whales couldn’t be sent to certain countries where they would be forced to procreate, and preform for entertainment.
There are always stresses and risks to whales during transit. These whales seem to be handling it not well.
This is the forth dead and honestly, I wasn’t expecting anything better. Moving whales is a massive endeavor and they were already in a rough shape.
It’s good that the park is being emptied in any case.
And there are not many institutions better suited to help and house these whales than the Shedd Aquarium.
