I mean, there’s still a demand for it since they are printing physical money without any incentive on stopping any time soon. If it were to be considered “dead” today, that would mean printing has ceased ages ago (like, no longer in circulation). So, it’s technically not a “purely cashless society” as cash is still around, but… would you live in a time where cash and metals are no longer legal tender making cashless the default option (or worse, cards are old: pay now with biochip inside wrist or arm).
Cash serves a purpose for the cases where internet or more broadly electricity may not be available. Imagine living in a place experiencing a sudden disaster like an earthquake and you’re left unable to purchase things like water or other basic necessities until the grid is back up
