    Bear vs. Shark.

By the time I discovered them, they had already broken up. Very short lived band that apparently put on great live shows.

ETA: not sure if this is the kind of answer you were looking for, but it’s the first thing that popped in my head.

Oingo Boingo was done and gone like almost a decade before I became a fan. And I started out right, becoming a fan of the “Only a Lad” album before most of the rest. Never did come around to the 1994 album “Boingo,” but to each their own.

Toots Hibbert (and the Maytals). He died in 2020. I would never have been able to enjoy his music before then anyway so… there’s always the recordings. My morning playlist is almost all Toots

    • Get up stand up
    • Spiritual healing
    • Reggae got soul
    • Beautiful woman
    • Broadway jungle
    • etc…

Saving this post to go spelunking after it has amassed some replies. Great question! I love music exploration.

    • I too love a good spelunk of the aged veins of music.

I also love connecting people with the right resources. So what kind of music are you into? =) (Or if that’s too broad, what kind of music are you seeking to get into?)

Oh god, what don’t I like. I like everything from Thrash/Death and Progressive Metal to classical piano and everything in between. Folk music, music from other cultures, Middle-Eastern, Greek, Spanish, South Asian, East Asian, Caribbean, etc. Good video game music, like the Ori soundtrack, lots of Mario games have good soundtracks, like the Galaxy games. Zelda games. Horizon games.

The list goes on. Ever expanding. 🤯

        • Oh boy! I’m very similar to you and your music taste then.

Let’s see… We’ll try these out and see what you think of them. A yay or nah is workable, but more info is useful.

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster - Step Up (I’m On It) [Southern Rock / Southern Metal]

Equilibrium - Snuffel [Folk Metal / Speed Metal]

Ghost - Kaisarion [Glam Metal / Heavy Metal]

Venjent - Till Death We Do Art [Electronic / Drum and Bass]

Sunlounger - White Sand - Chill Out Edit [Trance / Chillout]

            How fun!

I’ll say, Equilibrium was quite similar to some bands I do follow. Good one there.

Sunlounger was pretty chill. Might be something I’ll slap on while working or playing Rocket League.

Venjent… what if I told you I was like one of the top 0.01 % listeners of Venjent in 2025, I think. Some kind of small number like that. 😅 He’s truly inspired. Really sick beats. I tend to pair him up with Fox Stevenson for a solid time of straight bangers.

Some early as well as recent favorites of mine:

            • HIM
            • The Crown/prev. “Crown of Thorns”
            • The Haunted
            • Dimmu Borgir
            • Metallica
            • CKY
            • Foreign Objects
            • Meshuggah
            • Mattias “I.A.” Eklundh [my kids love this guy’s music, lol]
            • Opeth
            • Finntroll
            • Children of Bodom
            • Sonata Arctica
            • Animals as Leaders
            • Lamb of God
            • Tesseract
            • Textures
            • The Ocean
            • The Omnific
            • Dissection
            • Amon Amarth
            • Linkin Park (the first two albums; basically their first album was the first taste of metal I ever had; thought it sounded so badass; I don’t really open them up nowadays though, there’s just so much better stuff out there)

Bro there are so many good bands, I have about 1700+ bands that I follow on Spotify. (Quite overwhelming at times, actually.) But maybe you get the picture of what kind of weird sounds I’m into. Really liking a lot of syncopation. I want to be intrigued by the music, you know? 🙂

I rarely get new suggestions on Spotify anymore. I’ve like added the entire network of bands that have any kind of relation to one another. 😅

I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed some of the shared songs.

Venjent… what if I told you I was like one of the top 0.01 % listeners of Venjent in 2025, I think.

My goodness dude! Hahaha That’s is some serious dedication! =p

Equilibrium is one of favorite folk metal bands to date. Sunlounger is growing to become my go to artist, when I need to chill out. Venjent is a really interesting artist. I love his ability to utilize sounds from anything and apply them into a music format.

As for your list, HOLY SHIITAKE! You seem to have the metal music corner of music well covered. lol I’ve heard 12 of those listed and know I like, Dimmu Borgir, Metallica, CKY, Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth and (of course) Linkin Park. I’ll check out the rest over the next several days.

Bro there are so many good bands, I have about 1700+ bands that I follow on Spotify. (Quite overwhelming at times, actually.)

ROFL! I can totally understand the overwhelming sense you would get. This is why I only follow a 30 or so bands on Spotify.

If you’re looking for more chill music/song suggestions, I would suggestion:

              (Songs)

              Tokyomane - Far Away

              Aphex Twin - Avril 14th

              (Artists)

              Loafy Building

              no one’s perfect

              Ocie Elliott

              Kalaido

Really liking a lot of syncopation. I want to be intrigued by the music, you know?

Thanks cool dude. I figure you’ve heard of Math Rock. But if you haven’t… https://www.last.fm/tag/math+rock

What music suggestions would you have for me? Like I mentioned, I’m into just about everything. So what’cha got? =)

My old roommate sucked. His favorite band was a Canadian thrash metal band called 3 Inches of Blood. I assumed they also sucked. Many years later I actually listened to them and they’re amazing. In the meantime they had broken up.

Happy ending, though. They did a reunion show last year and I was able to go see it!

At the Drive-In - Literally the hot shit of late 00s and early 10s done in the mid 90s. They were so ahead of their time it’s a shame they kinda get lost being inspiration for what came later. They totally deserved to be the focal point.

Converge - I was always aware of them. They were kind of just another band at the time they were at their best. Then I really got into them this past year. I totally wish I could have fully appreciated them when we were younger. Going to one of their early shows would have been a highlight of my life.

Nine Inch Nails - I just never gave them a proper chance until the past few years. They totally deserve their reputation. Their stuff is awesome.

Since you like At the Drive-in, have you listened to the Mars Volta?

Also, Nine Inch Nails is still on tour.

I’ve heard a song here and there but I haven’t given them a serious listen. I know it’s the same singer and guitarist.

Almost all of them. And I often think they’re someone no one else listens to. Like I found this singer I really liked last December who I thought at first was America’s answer to Corinne Bailey Rae until I heard her speak and found out she’s British too. Still, I liked her sound and was in my happy little bubble listening to the indie artist I found who no one else knew about: Olivia Dean.

Now I’m just dreading finding out that Apes of the State have won a Pulitzer Prize or something. At least I know no one’s heard of this Britney Spears person I’ve started listening to.

Every time I heard the band name “Daft Punk,” it meant nothing to me. Toward the end of their existence I finally put the name with the music and hot damn that’s good stuff.

Yeah similar to me. I thought they were some no name one hit wonder with “harder, better, faster stronger” and only recently I realized they were very popular in the 90s already and “around the world” is from them, which is like the background music of my childhood memories.

Westkust. Found them through Keep Driving, loved them, looked them up, and was super disappointed to learn they broke up. At least there’s Makthaverskan with some of their ex-members and a similar sound.
