Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it true that Europeans still haven’t figured out how to land on the Moon? Aside from the US and USSR doing it 50+ years ago, China, Japan, and India have also managed to achieve it by now. Hell, even Singapore and Pakistan are gonna get there before you.

It’s because hydrogen is superior to electric batteries in terms of ease of storage, range, filling up, and probably even energy use.

Confidently incorrect. Love to see it. If only you could ascertain the size of your own head relative to the size of your brain.

isn’t it true that Europeans still haven’t figured out how to land on the Moon

Wow, my US failed educational system comment really rubbed you the wrong way you had to go back to the 1960’s for an example of American scientific superiority?

Also, it couldn’t possibly be because Europe didn’t have the finances coming out of the longest, most costly war they’ve ever had, to send a few people to the moon for what basically amounted to a morale victory against the USSR, despite that the USSR beat the US to every other space objective except landing on the moon, could it? But sure, America won the space race.

Love to see it. If only you could ascertain the size of your own head relative to the size of your brain.

Love the ad hominem attacks right off the bat with no provocation except a general indictment against the US education system. Which you seem to have taken very personally, my friend.

And look, the Hydrogen vs EV thing. EV is the clear winner in a practical sense, as evident by EV’s exploding on the scene the last decade or so. However, if you look at the science objectively, Toyota and Honda are not wrong to have considered Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicles as superior in many respects to EVs.

Either approach is better than ICE/fossil fuels, so EV or Hydrogen Fuel Cell, they’re both wins.

If you can’t understand that Hydrogen Fuel Cells are the closest thing to a near 1:1 replacement of fossil fuels, without the fossil part of it, then I don’t know what else to tell you. It is superior in terms of transportation, refueling, range, etc… It is not as efficient in terms of energy output, but it is for storage. You can refuel in the same time it takes to refuel a gas powered car. The only waste is essentially water. It has a lot of limitations in terms of being able to produce your own at home, as not every home is going to want to invest $10k+ (at least the cost 10 years ago when I looked) in an anode based hydrogen fuel cell exchange. They are relatively easy to make though, but I don’t think this is as easy as just plugging your car into the charger every night.

Li-Ion and Li-Pol batteries have severe limitations. Not just in recharge cycles, but in rare earth mineral costs, environmental damage, and just straight up energy limitations for how dense the energy storage can be ratioed to the weight and stability/safety.

Hydrogen fuel cells have none of those limitations, and their efficiency is by how efficient we can make the hydrogen consumption, so there’s a lot more potential for improvements down the road without being hamstrung on energy storage problems.

They also weigh less, so they get better range, and are safer cars on the road because of the lower weight. They also won’t require replacing the battery every 10 or so years (sooner if you drove a Nissan Leaf…).

Anyhow. I hope that by responding, you’ll understand that we’re on the same page/side of history here, we both want what’s best for the world. EVs are it right now, the market has decided. But that doesn’t make Toyota or Honda wrong for heavily investing in Hydrogen tech. It just makes them tone-deaf to the market conditions.

I hope you can stop lashing out at people who should be your allies because you may not agree with every single thing they said, or because they broadly insult a failing educational system (without calling you out specifically). It appears that while you’ve got a good heart, your attitude and social skills suck my friend.

Best of luck in your future travels.

If you’re going to react like this to every broad generalization of America, then you’re in for an incredibly rough next 50 or 60 years while the world continues to remind Americans (in general) that they’re a bunch of fucking idiots who let trump take office twice and he’s currently fucking up the world and making enemies out of Americas strongest allies.

And man, ok, we’ll do this dance once more, but you’re really trying to turn a broad generalization of what is empirically factual data that the US is behind vs the rest of the world when it comes to math, science, and other hard skills/STEM stuff, and you took that very, very personally for reasons that escape me. And you’re still doing it.

You just used the False Equivalence fallacy by claiming that a broad generalization, and a personal attack, are the same thing. You also ignored everything else in the reply and tried to hit me with a “gotcha”.

This isn’t even high school debate club man. This is textbook logical fallacy stuff. You went right for the ad hominem even though I didn’t say anything specific to you, so you’re already off to a bad start, and then your next reply is a false equivalence fallacy.

There’s a difference between lashing out at an individual, and making broad generalizations. I can insult a country broadly for their policies, their lack of education, their lack of care of their citizens, etc. without insulting individuals in the country.

I didn’t say you, specifically, were so fucking stupid, because you’re an American, now did I?

But now I’m starting to think it…

Mate Europe as a whole has fucked more of the world and still actively fucking it in large chunks of Africa. Every country is lead by shit bags and has fucked over other countries, started wars and is honestly a terrible place. America is speed running. Some stupid ass shit right now but that doesn’t change history.

Doesn’t mean you need to be a racist xenophobic prick towards normal people.

Yeah like two extremely relatable and immediately identifiable sizes that are much more visceral than saying ~13.3-16m and ~38cm

I hate to break it to you, but when someone states anything in metric, I immediately have a feel for how large that is. That’s because we usually state everything in metric, so we don’t need to refer to random stuff and just learn the sizes of everything.

A “school bus” can be a local mini that’s like 8-10?m long, or a medium like 15-metre one. A “school bus” (as it would be near me) can also be an articulated main route bus that has three high schools and a major university on both ends of the corridor, at like 30 metres long.

Ditto pizzas. A “large” is such an arbitrary measurement.

as for “seeing” the proportions… if you gave me that picture and told me it was shrimp-sized (also a bit ambiguous), I couldn’t question it. At best, the “pizza” and “bus” provide order of magnitude estimates.

It says bus-sized, and it’s long. That makes it a standard bus, not a short bus. And we can assume it’s not a city bus, because it says school bus. It’s pretty clear what the approximate size is.

That’s such an american thing to say. School and city buses are the same thing in a lot of the world. Sometimes they are chartered by the school with public funds, sometimes they are just normal bus lines that have additional timeslots before and after school.

And even school uses itself vary a lot by each countrie. The US has these yellow monsters while a lot of Asian countries use small vans as buses.

What is large pizza? The only size of pizza I know is pizza. How many seats does the school bus have? That can easily change by 15 meters.

In the US, pizzas have basically been standardized by the national chains to be 10 inch (25cm) for a small, 12 inch (30 cm) for a medium, and 14 inch (36 cm) for a large.

Honestly, this is probably the most effective way to communicate circle sizes to me, as I am quite familiar with exactly how big each of those sizes are.

I’m obviously familiar with other lengths as lengths, but for flat circles, there’s not really a better intuitive comparison.

Iv always loved how people attack Americans for using dumb refences for measurements by just being racist towards all Americans.

Xenophobic? Is there a word for attacking a person based on their nation of origin? I guess xenophobic would be accurate.

Its not like other countries also don’t use stupid refences to every day objects to make comparisons. Nope just an American thing that requires them also to be fat and uneducated.

We love causal xenophobia and racism here on lemmy!

In Italy a pizza is a pizza. Size can vary a little bit restaurant to restaurant, but no way you can ask a different size pizza than the one you’re being served.

Some places may offer slightly smaller ones for kids, but that’s quite uncommon.

As you can see, this is not at all a reliable way to communicate sizes: I have no way to decypher how large a large pizza is.

You need specialized hardware - a simple banana would crush under the pressure.

In order to properly measure and preserve the dimensions of the banana, you would need a miniature submarine with a clear glass window.

How they managed to get the pizzas and school bus down there is not explained, however I trust that they did the measurements properly with pizza and school bus submarines.

But most of all, FUCK NY POST

What used to be considered a large pizza is now sold as extra large and it really isn’t as big as an old large pizza its like what a medium was . So this thing has a big ass body and beedie little eyes
