Why? Why is it that globers can’t have civil and rational discussions about the shape of the earth and they always resort to harassment, personal attacks, and name-calling? If science really is about learning from being wrong why can’t they just accept that they don’t understand or know the explanation to a phenomenon explained by flat earth. Instead they have to call us names and attack us for challenging their own worldview.

If you don’t know just say you don’t know or don’t engage, don’t call me or others names in the comments. Let’s keep this civil.

Because it’s like now somebody came to you and asked to discuss about babies being brought in by birds instead of being born from mothers. How would you react?

I have traveled a lot in my life. I have seen the round earth from airplanes, i have experienced time zones first hand and have been flying all around the pacific ocean as well.

I can assure you, proof that earth is a globe is not required. What is required is get out of comfort zone and check it yourself if you don’t believe science, physics. It takes a nice clear day high altitude (commercial jet i mean) flight, and if you still are not convinced, well, take an airplane like i did from Europe to far east, then to French Polynesia, then to Easter Island, then to Chile. Woah, man, it’s round and connected! i did myself, i am living proof of that. You even get to experience the fun of living the same day twice when you spend your Saturday night in Auckland, NZ, then fly to Papeete and spend AGAIN your Saturday in Tahiti… Fun stuff.*

But i was already sold on the “globe” thing when, almost 30 years ago, i did my first overseas trip to US and was phoning my parents with a -9 hour time difference, and it was actually real.

/s Now, see, back to that “babies brought by birds” thing, i read on the internet that all this about mothers giving birth is a big conspiracy to keep the woman enslaved… /s

    • = to be clear, that was not a SINGLE flight, i did it over the course of a few weeks taking those flight legs separately and with flight times perfectly matching the distances covered on a globe surface, not some weird convoluted flight route that i have seen from flat earthners to try justify that it’s possible.

As an additional note, once i also fly the route more north, going trough Micronesia and hawai… again from Europe to US. It was even an US commercial airline flight.

As a final note, there are plenty of seamen who even SAIL still today (for fun) across the Pacific, from US to Asia.

Because despite what they believe, they aren’t challenging my world view. They’re peddling conspiracy theories and setting Olympic records in mental gymnastics to ignore mountains of evidence, all in an effort to present “proof” that has been refuted over and over again. It’s a position that is absolutely laughable and any flat earther who considers themselves rational have already presented enough anecdotal evidence that a debate on the subject will be as stupid as the belief itself.

I would be okay with globers if they weren’t so hostile when it comes to their beliefs. Ultimately it doesn’t matter that some people believe the Earth is round, while the rest of us know it’s flat. What matters is being able to talk about it in a way that is constructive and that isn’t abusive or name-calling.

        But it does matter.

It matters because it’s symptomatic of the kind of people who deliberately spread misinformation. Either because their mouths are bigger than their brains, or just because they’re utter c*nts.

You cannot have a rational discussion about fundamentally irrational ideas. And yes, I do think people who believe this nonsense are idiots. There. Now you can smugly claim to be part of persecuted minority again. Have fun.

Well, you deleted the last post because it had too many comments saying the flat earth myth is stupid and easily debunkable and reposted here?

That’s the point of this sub, there are no stupid questions. Just because you think it is stupid doesn’t mean it is.

Because your argument implies that commercial airline pilots and anyone who has ever had anything to do with putting space craft and satellites into orbit is involved in a massive conspiracy.

And that’s just fucking insulting to anyone with an actual functioning brain cell.

You’re literally doing it right now. That thing so many globers do instead of having a rational and logical discussion 🤦

Supposing you are serious, you cannot argue with somebody that defies logic and science to a level such as believing the earth being flat.

To be clear: nobody ever really believed earth to be flat, not even in ancient times since both Greeks and Romans knew its a globe.

Even in the middle ages earth was known to be a globe, despite common idea that middle wages where dark times.

Flat earthers are a modern thing and this says it all.

I know that this is most likely bait, but it’s fun to address this topic.

The problem is the base of the arguments. Often flat earth theories disregard theories we see as proven, based on empirical evidence, and form their own theories, which have flaws that people “globers” see as authorities in the field (e.g. scientists, scholars) can point out in a reasonable manner. However, these flaws are often disregarded due to paranoia, claiming these people are also part of the conspiracy, or are brainwashed by it.

This leads to a disjointed thinking process. One side cannot think like the other due to different bases in logic, so any classic arguments are fruitless to convince the other. Hostility ensues due to frustration.

It’s similar to people who suffer from psychosis. There is no point in arguing traditionally, and the only way to help them is through processes like the LEAP method, in order to help them connect to a more grounded reality, if that is even possible.

Imagine someone told you, looking to your eyes, that you don’t exist. Would you say “maybe that person is right and I don’t exist”?
