Science@lemmy.ml•Rejuvenation breakthrough: Scientists reverse 60 years of aging in human cells
0·11 hours agoIdk. They might be forced to give it to everyone if its truly cheap to do because China will certainly do so, and it would put the US at a massive disavantage of most of their population was aging while China’s wasn’t and could lead to serious unrest. Healthcare is an issue now, but imagine when the average person in China is immortal. Americans would be so jealous.
I don’t really spend money on the internet. I’ll order a physical item if I can’t find it irl but other than that I never participate in the internet economy. If I want something I find… other ways… to get it. Or I just don’t have it. Big whoop.

0·1 day agoHonestly its possible to just keep a car going forever if you get the right one. Get someone with a reliable track record and just make sure to spray down the frame so it doesn’t rust, keep up with maintenence, and you can drive it for 50 years. Even the big stuff that comes up (like rebuilding a trans) is cheaper than buying a new car.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What ai ridden, social media platform caused you to migrate to lemmy?
0·1 day agoI came here before AI was a thing. I make new accounts every now and then, but I’ve been here for years.
Oh you sweet summer child
Do not leave batteries inside things your not gonna be using for a long time. And if you don’t want this to happen buy NiMH batteries

0·1 day agoIt would be nearly impossible to prove in a court of law that was not your real profile. All you’d have to do is say that is your travel phone and you don’t use it for much.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Got a kid on the way, what are we naming them?
0·1 day agoI like names that are uncommon enough to not be boring but not too out there. Also having a cool like origin/meaning is nice. Examples with meaning/origin and prominent figures sharing the name included:
Silas: Greek/Latin meaning Forest or “of the Forest” Silas Deane, founder of the Methodist Church
Wesley: Old English meaning west meadow Wesley Moore, current Governor of Maryland
August: Latin (Augustus) meaning magnificent Augustus Caesar, First Princeps of the Roman Empire
Audrey: Old English meaning noble strength Audrey Hepburn, American Actress
Evelyn: English and French (Aveline) meaning hazelnut Evelyn Waugh, English Novelist/Satirist
Florence: Latin meaning blossoming/flourishing. Florence Nightingale, Pioneer in the Medical Field
I drive an old ass S10 and it gets better gas mileage and has a bigger bed than most of the newer bigger trucks coming out these days.

0·2 days agoYou could approximate this by simple having the main profile be left as a dummy profile and users use secondary profiles for their data. Then when you put the special code in it discretely deletes all but the main profile, leaving your dummy profile intact however you have set it up, and they’d have no idea your other profiles were where the data really was. They’d just unlock the phone, see the dummy profile, and think that was the phone.

0·3 days agoHonestly AI writing is so fucking bad you can read a couple paragraphs and know its AI. Just makes going to a book store and opening the book up for a quick look before buying it worth it again.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why are we so weird about speed limits (US)?
0·4 days agoWhy does everyone drive 10-15 miles above the speed limit?
We don’t. Some of yall do. And then you ride my ass when i don’t.
Why don’t we raise the speed limit if that’s how fast everyone wants to go?
They do. Speed limits are determined by how fast people go on the roads.
Why is traffic enforcement given to very expensive and ineffective police instead of cheaper and more automated traffic cameras?
Because cameras can’t beat people with batons for no reason. Also some areas do have camera enforcement.
Why do we refuse to ever use ANY traffic calming measures? Yes, than you flashing digital sign for telling me I’m going 10 miles above the limit on this incredibly wide and straight and flat road with high curbs and perfect visibility.
Your mad it’s telling you you’re speeding? Then go slower.
