The difference is when a LLM tells you, it’s news.
Besides, what are you gonna do if you ask AI how many rocks to eat? NOT eat rocks? People can’t handle responsibility like that.

There’s a little space between being pro-AI and refraining from shoe-horning really clever burn words like “slop”, “clown”, and “dumb” into the names of things. It shows the same mastery of derision and humor as playground fart jokes. Chuds trot those out, and it’s a huge eyeroll; we can do better.

I’m going to also add here, as a separate comment, that I am omni leaning toward carnist, but I’ve got quite a lot of respect for @TheTechnician27@lemmy.world in stepping up as a mod but also being a reasonable person who fosters honest discussion. Not my first +1, but I’m always happy to give it!

I also find “carnist” to be sort of a try-hard word in regular use, but the other part that SHOULD be said is that choosing to use it is useful for perspective switching. Typically being vegan or vegetarian is a minority position so the language in general basically normalizes omni eating habits. “Carnist” as a turn of phrase makes it possible to shift “normal” to more closely match veganism.
Edit: You basically said this deeper in the thread, oops. Still I’ll leave it because maybe more people will see it.

Gotta always be prepared for the Roko’s basilisk eventuality.

Controversial maybe, but I think you missed “slop” in regular conversation, specifically hybrid words (see microslop). It’s one thing to write about it in an AI thread, but douchey to me if you bend a conversation to it then say it out loud.

Hey bozo, it’s spelled “counterargument” you absolute fleshbag! 🥏

1/3 open. It blocks the light that way but let’s air circulate from the central air registers in there. Otherwise the bedroom gets hot.
Retirement portfolios / stock market and also PC motherboard / CPU / ram combos. These both seem learnable but they ste both totally opaque to me. I just glaze over when those topics come up.

I might pop over and check out the discussion. I added it to the list because I frequently see people in my family prefer “mystical” explanations of pretty direct scientific phenomena and it makes me nuts. I won’t yuck your yum if you think ghosts exist or you want to measure the strength of your consciousness because you’ve been reincarnated or something, but maybe we don’t use that as argument against vaccines and general health, you know? Someone also explained to me I my town how he was pretty sure climate change was a hoax and the earth has just been “knocked off it’s axis”. That’s not mysticism, but it’s the kind of stupid that speaks to why I included it.
And of course theres no question I’m an elitist lol. It’s an easy reservoir of perspective to draw from if you want something controversial.

Maybe?
I ran a lab at my school for about 10 years so I feel like my take might be a little more holistic. I’m not at all discounting you but the politics of a university are pretty layered.

That seems like a thoughtful take, but it is more generalized than I really meant. I will need more than 10 minutes before bed to agree or disagree.
Particularly the depth of helpless and stupid I’m not totally sure about.

As long as you agree I guess.
Edit:
For some fun, do you care to attempt to justify your position? I suspect you are supremely ill-equipped, but I’m happy to let you prove it.

Stupid people exist.
I mean this actively: stupid people aren’t theoretical brings who exist outside this discussion we are having here. Many people in this thread qualify. There’s regular stupid, which is just most people. That’s the benign kind of stupid which maybe is indicative of a lack of training or bad circumstances for learning in earlier life. You can also find double down stupid in this thread. The flat earth conspiracy, “consciousness” mysticism, and can barely craft a sentence kind of stupid.
The general public is even worse.
People are all willing to admit that stupid exists, but most won’t point the finger. Close your eyes and point and you’ll hit someone, bless their hearts.

I had the opposite experience before I left, but it sure pays like shit. Could be a little university dependent I suppose.
No it’s like how you yoke an ox or draft horse.

Have the day your vote gave us.

Supposing the prices they charge are still less than what you would pay for the convenience of purchasing a product with no extra effort, why would you switch?
I have myself had aspirations to buy fewer things from Amazon. However. Even including stuff like this, I am happy to pay $10 extra to not have to dick around.
I hope Amazon has to pay money for this and that it hurts their business model, bit as a customer they are still scratching my itch 2 times out of 3.
You should be all the way joking because giving this sort of agency to an LLM shows an all the way misunderstanding of what they are and how they work.
You not alone in these feelings, but just like the title of the article, they are fundamentally misguided.
