This is the thing I like least about Lemmy. So many people have no friends or life experience, hate everyone, and want to constantly argue or insult others that it’s difficult to avoid them. I block as many as I can, but it takes a lot of the fun out of meeting people and having discussions.

SimpleX works well for me. What problems have you had with it?

It’s not new. My cousin constantly argued with her boyfriend 20-25 years ago because she believed she deserved to be taken out to $200 dinners on a regular basis, and he only ever wanted to go to McDonald’s.

I felt that way, too. I started enjoying it more again when I started blocking people that I wouldn’t want to interact with, and blocking communities that seem to attract that type of person.

My instance doesn’t have downvotes. Seems fine to me. If a post bothers me that much, I just block whoever made it.

It’s always great to have good friends, regardless of details like gender. The more love in the world, the better. If you and your best friend have known each other since age 12, it sounds like he’s had plenty of time to tell you if he has romantic feelings for you. If he hasn’t, it sounds to me like he’s happy with the kind of relationship you have now.

I got that email today and changed my wishlist to private.

I use Eternity, too. I tried lots of options, and liked it the best.
