0·4 days agoSome stuff I’ve enjoyed learning or are on my to learn list, but when I got back into it the two I kept playing were electric wizard funeralopolis that led to more metal songs and creating riffs and calatayud vals that got me into more classical stuff like Bach
Electric wizard - dopethrone the slides on funeralopolis are very groovy and fun, sanguisugabogg and black Sabbath for more grungy grooves
Gojira, Pantera for some fun chugs and sheds and techniques to learn
Bach, toccata and fugue, bwv997 prelude, anh114 minuet in g are all pretty fun and sound awesome
Some old strumming classics like big rock candy mountain or big iron
Some faster Spanish style like Malaguena or learning the rasgueado techniques if you have access to a nylon string
Indie focused crumb, khruangbin, zero 7, Bonobo, boards of Canada, air, ratatat, Tycho I don’t usually try to match the tone but just playing the melody or a bass line or something in the same range is fun

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•College core: you sit in the class for attendance then go home and teach yourself
2·4 days ago#1 Spaced repetition, #2 quizzing, and #3 explaining it in plain common language without any technical words or phrases are 3 really good methods to learning something new. The lectures provide #1 if you study the material a few days before or after the lecture. Note taking can help focus on the material during the lecture to stay engaged and focused, and be useful when studying later to target what you have trouble with.

3·5 days agoIt’s for the pro capitalism form of Animal Farm where a small hierarchy of heroic pigs controlling the farm save it from the evil communist working animals wasting money they don’t have on frivolous things like food and healthcare using Seth Rogan’s laugh as an area denial weapon.
There are many places where signals and speed limits are treated as light suggestions, the law only matters if it’s enforced and rules made in support of some safety or cooperation. Places where speeding is only enforced at more reckless ~15kph above the limit and over, or signal lights aren’t enforced if there’s no pedestrians or cross traffic. Maybe it’s degrees of domestication, or greater safety to break the rules if car jackings are common in an area

0·5 days agoSwitzerland is expensive for every traveller. I haven’t been but had two friends go on different trips within the last 5 years and they both enjoyed the trip but had some expensive times.

In my experience it was for old insecure guys who were uncomfortable going to a massage or doing any structured stretching regularly so they’d get an adjustment from a quack a few times a year instead.

Now that’s tane I can get into

Specialist who knows some topic really well but has no charisma or presentation so is perpetually locked at like 200 listeners.

Most people join cults for community and structure and answers. There’s resources like https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/freedom-mind/202104/the-definitive-guide-helping-people-trapped-in-cult and https://www.peopleleavecults.com/post/help-cult-involved but I think the general idea is stay calm don’t crash out when talking about it, help them notice the manipulation techniques being used that are common to cults, asking questions that help undermine indoctrination and inspire more skepticism, and provide alternatives for the reasons they are wanting to join or stay in a cult without the manipulation and lies a cult requires to exist.
